NP 242Transfer case question

I had to change the ujoint on the rear driveshaft and ended up with the wrong ujoint which forced me to drive to the auto parts in 4wd sans rear shaft. I have AWD on this Jeep and when I put it in 4FT it wouldn't pull, but I could see the speedo moving. That meant that the rear output shaft was spinning but no power to the front. Is that normal with a 242 transfer case?

Yes.

The full time mode utilizes a differential. So with no driveshaft in the rear, the rear output has no load therefore gets all the power.

The speedo will still read because it is read off the tail shaft.

Throw it in part time to drive in front wheel drive.
