So I have had a bad oil leak I have neglected for awhile and I am now forced to deal with it..first off I have 2 cars and normaly drive the car over the jeep since it has this leak but I am forced to leave the car behind for a trip.
I have a 1993 cherokee with a remanufactured 4.0L with about 75,000mi on it. I put in the motor along with a friend (this being my first ever motor remove and install) The engine came as a long block so I needed to move over all covers/pans/assy. I tell you this because I fear that I am leaking from my timimg chain cover..when I put the oil slinger on I was sure at the time that I put it in right but after the engine was installed and I looked back at the service manual I am second guessing myself. This may not even be possable for it to be the problem but I have no other idea..
What is happening is I have a massive oil leak that sprays up the passenger side of the engine and on long road trips it will even go up the side of the windshield. It's only the passenger side, the driver side is completely clean and clear of oil. When the jeep is parked a good sizeable amount of oil will be on the ground under the oil pan...though I believe it's just running back from a part further upfront. What I think is happening is that my timinng chain cover is leaking and from fan air and just general air passing through is blowing it up the side of the engine and when parked the residule is just flowing down and dripping at it's lowest point at the pan....could this be somewhat accurate? what do you guys think?
