Low voltage to fuel pump, smoking ballast.

Eureka..

Ted cam over to help me out and we determined that the wire going from the ballast to the fuel pump was grounding out somewhere.. Hence the hot wires... Also upon checking the wires on the passenger side of the car....where i smelled more burning plastic....a wire from the metal box on the front side of the relay panel to a wiring harness was completely fried. Replaced that wire...and ran new wire from the ballast to the pump...and voila!! It fired right up. Who'd a thought that friggin' wire was shorting out between the ballast and the pump..

I appreciate everyones advice. We tried every one of your suggestions.

And thank you Ted! Livesaver.

The metal box is the starter relay. It also serves as the central junction point for your +12VDC feeds to just about everything. The wire that was fried was probably a fuse link wire, did it feel spongy?
