I've never checked or replaced the lube in my tranfer case...

Should I? What lube should I use? It's a 90, 4.0, 5-speed. Easy to do?

Use a synthetic ATF in your transfer case. It takes a little less than 2 quarts.

changing the ATF in your transfercase is probably the EASIEST fluid change you can do on your XJ.

do a search on here for very specific instructions and necessary sockets for the large drain/fill plugs

i have a 30mm socket for my 96 IIRC

I recommend synthetic too and be careful when torquing on the drain plug..the case is aluminum and will crack.
