Is spam on the increase?

About two years ago, I was getting probably about 5 spam emails every couple of days or so. Last year at this time I was getting between 10 and 40 per day.

In the last couple of months, this number is over a hundred per day. Yesterday I received 137 spam emails and today 156.

Anyone else noticing this? I don't give my email out to any service, website, etcetera and have never responded to a spam email.

Thankfully I have a gmail address at home and it has an excellent filter, and work filters them beautifully as well, so they don't really bother me, it just seems odd.

Who the hell reads all this crap?

What I find most interesting is that I've got a couple of email addys that I haven't published anywhere, nor do I use for email traffic - but I still get SPAM to them.

And, what's with "chat SPAM?" I've been getting hits to some of my chat ID's of late, and I'm wondering where that came from.

Is SPAM on the rise? Quite likely - I've been catching more and more making it through the filter (200-300 overnight.) We've been getting waves of it here of late, and I've caught them trying to get into my groups that I run on Yahoo! (fortunately, I've taken them to "full moderation" some time ago - so I can catch them before they actually sign up.)

I still think SPAMmers should be hauled out into the street and severely beaten. Perhaps then we can get them to stop doing it. I don't need Viagra, Cialis, or any clones; I wouldn't mind if I did lose hair; I didn't like the "singles scene" before I was married - I've no interest whatever now; and I've no interest in "hot stock tips" (no money to invest) or any other such tripe.

Assuming, just for the sake of argument, that I were momentarily interested in such things and continued to be so sometime after I came to my senses again, I do know how to use the Yellow Section of the phone book. I'm not likely to just take anything from the first source that comes along, and I'm damned sure not going to buy something from someone doing "push ads" - I quit watching TV to get away from the advertisements. I find them repetitious, stupid, and insulting. SPAM is a few steps worse.

Are they adult in nature?

Yep, the vast majority are penis enlargement (how do they know? :D ), second in line would be medication advertisements, third would be software offers, fourth would be financial phishing...

One really crummy thing about gmail is that if an address doesn't exist, but yours is close, it will come to you. For example, if mine were [email protected] and someone mailed to [email protected], it would come to me...

PS: don't bother sending to these, they are not my real emails... (duh...)...

My gmail does good keeping the crap out of my main inbox, my Yahoo is overrun. I only use my Yahoo now for times when I need to sign up for something requiring a valid e-mail, except for forums I actually plan on using.

My Yahoo ~200-300/day, Hotmail ~0, and gmail ~0. Although...hotmail sends me their own crap. Most of my spam is singles, phones, make it rich, and naughty MILF31 sites. I think they target you based on your demographics.

I receive probably 1-200/day on yahoo...non for hotmail...I just got one that topped them all this morning! It had a subject of "This is why you are fat" tell me that isn't a good one! How did they know?!
