Put jack stands under the front axle so the tires are off the ground. Make sure you're not in 4wd. Before it's engaged, spin one of the front tires by hand and see how the tires behave. Then engage the locker, spin the tire again by hand and hopefully you'll see something different.
jack it up turn one wheel. If not engaged and therefor open the other tire will spin the opposite way. Engage the locker and they will spin the same direction.
When mine is engaged it is very difficult to get the front to turn a corner. This is on a gravel driveway. Even in the sand I can tell a big difference. I run the front open unless I need it and even then I prefer not to turn.
