Blackberry help

So I picked up a Blackberry Pearl off craigslist because I killed my T mobile Dash. The girl I got it from didn't know how to sweep the phone but I want to do it now that I have it. I found a service under the general settings called "wipe handheld." If I do this will it wipe my sim card? All my contacts are on the sim and I don't want to lose them.

If I pull the sim will the phone work? I thought once you pull the sim the phone is useless.

When I used to have a phone with a sim card we got an extra one and used it as a charger, just swapped the sim card into the phone with a full battery. This was a few years ago though.

I pulled the sim and it is wiping it now, hopefully this is what I wanted to do.

That worked, now I can't get my sim contacts from there onto the phone. The phone says they are on the sim and it is copying them over but they never show up...
