Best tubing size for bumpers?

Hi all...Looking to fab up a new bumper for the AMC XJ.........I was thinking 1/8th wall square tubing....roughly whatever dimentions I can get from the scrapyard. The yards around here have a GREAT selection of steel, in many wall thicknesses, and sizes. I'm not using it for air, and recovery points will be tied to the frame...not just the bumper.

Any disadvantages to a thinner wall tubing in a non-stressed application? I'm not looking for massive front end protection....just something to replace the crappy bumper I have now. Lighter=better in my eyes(at least more weight off of the front end....mine's pretty light up front, and I want to keep it that way.

Any thoughts?

I think 1/8 would be plenty. Sounds like you already know what you want.
Light is good. My rocker guards from AJ's are only 1/8 (I requested them that way) and they are amazingly rigid.
