I have a pair of Wolverines (steel toe work boots) and the sole is a complete POS. The rest of teh boot is good but the sole broke open. Second pair that did that, too.

Another vote for redwings, they suck to break in, but are awesome after that. First pair lasted me 6+ years of everyday work wear ( tieback drilling, scrambling up goat trails, welding, wrenching, etc)
