It's supposed to be like that because there is constant power being sent to the front axle as well as the rear. Make sure you don't drive on the street in 4wd unless you have full-time 4wd.
As far as turning less I would check the steering, suspension, u-joints to see if anything is binding up. It might just be the way it is though.
