I'm switching my little HF AC flux core from AC to DC with a bridge rectifier. I'm definetly not an EE, but I understand that a capacitor is needed to absorb the spikes.
Can anyone tell me where I can find a cheap source for a 50v DC 46k micro-farad (or larger, up to 300k mfd) capacitor? I'm talking under $15.00.
I need one for a welder mod I'm working on and Amazon and EBay are giving me grief.
Evidently I joined the ranks of "the damn hood won't open"... Then the battery died.:smsoap: Then we have record cold temps and I can't move the Jeep from the cold garage to the heated garage (hard to charge the battery when the hood won't open, dead battery, won't start.. you get the idea).
So...
Yes it's ugly, but some styling could overcome that, maybe. The thing doesn't even have a transfer case! The rear wheels are powered by a shaft off the transaxle. Anyone remember the all-wheel drive Ford Tempo back in the '80s?
I think I'd rather 'wheel the Tempo...
I tried a blocking diode in each t/s feed before the converter, but then the converter doesn't light the trailer lights
Tried it, didn't work. I stopped at an RV place yesterday while I was downstate. They handed me a powered Tow Power converter and said it's the only one they use, the rest are...
Try as I might, I cannot get the LEDs in the XJ to work with the trailer lights. There is a small backfeed through the trailer light converter. It's not enough to light a regular bulb, but it will light the LEDs.
I am using amber t/s, so no trailer converter to run the XJ lights
I DO have a...
I don't need the converter for the lights in my XJ, I need it for trailer lights. My b/u light is already on my tire carrier and run independently of the taillight harness.
I definitely need a diode, but how do I know which one?
Ok, that wasn't it. I wired in a converter and my t/s are still dimly lit when the brakes are on. Checking with the multi-meter shows a tiny bit of current feeding back to the t/s through the converter when the brake lights are on. probably not enough to show with a regular bulb, but enough to...
FYI, the factory trailer harness plugs into the main harness (where the rear lamps would plug in) and the lamp harness plugs into it. I wired my JCR boxes with amber turn signals and no b/u lights. I spent a few hours trying to figure out why my amber t/s lights came on with the brake lights...
Got mine installed yesterday and they look great.
One issue though. Teach your parts guys the difference between stainless and galvanized. All the nuts that came with mine weren't stainless.
Ordered my taillight boxes and lights tonight. You guys gotta stop making such cool stuff that I gotta have!
BTW, you guys did a great job on my gears and diffs two years back.
Has anyone used this stuff? I have a small trailer I'm thinking of coating the open mesh deck with it. Spray bomb paint jobs don't last very long up here in the rust belt and I thought this might last a bit longer.
