Tornado Chasers on the Discovery channel?

Yeah I agree about Josh Wurman, he has always come off as a jackass and for him to get pissed about the TIV passing cars when they were obviously going way too slow is ridiculous, it's not like they were being crazy. If I saw an opportunity to pass I would too. Once Josh said they wouldn't guide the TIV i would have taken his instruments off the TIV and left them there. It goes both ways. I don't like Reed Timmer either, why don't he just steal some more ideas.

Agreed. Didn't pay much attention to the road but if it was a legal passing zone and he was passing at a safe rate of speed, I don't see what the problem is. The comment on the video posted was from another chaser and said something to the effect of "in all my years of chasing i've never seen such careless driving" or something like that. Yeah, right. If you didn't like it, you should have pulled over to the side then and let them by. I liked how even while Josh was bitching and moaning, the iMax crew was still out filming...and got a hell of a tornado to film at that!

Also glad to see Matt's family publicly released a statement as to Matt's death. It was rumored on the internet a couple of weeks ago that it was a suicide but nobody confirmed it. Still a bummer to hear though, he was one of my favorite people on the show.

Yes! It comes through! The rolling repair bill strikes again!

Full floating, tandem axle, dually outback,
Stock unit bearings on the front axle.

What an engineering marvel!

I'd like to know how many miles they rack up on those things each season.

those guys act really gay, what the hell is with the one guy who has a restraining order on some other chasing guy or something>?

I bet Sean's wife will be XXXXing ecstatic when he tells her he finally got that shot of the TOR impacting him.

Of course, after 10 years of chasing, I doubt he'll just give it up so easily.

Haven't been following the whole drama, just caught the last 2 episodes last night, but apparently it's something like this:
The guys in the big dopler radar trucks are all operating under a grant from(I think)the feds through NOAA.
The guys in the 3 chase trucks are all operating through the discovery channel, and specifically the guy in the TIV has some kind of collateral funding for a IMAX movie project he's filming(the whole point of the TIV) Apparently the funding for the movie is contingent on the guys in the TIV working with the Doppler radar guys. The guys in the TIV have been acting pretty unprofessional to and around the Dopler radar guys.(started last season) to the point that the doppler people are starting to worry about their grants.(They have to at least LOOK professional, and not like a bunch of whack-job drama queens running around the mid-west)
It all came to a head, 2nd to last episode, where the leader of the doppler team pulld them in and told them to stay away from his trucks, or he was going to stop data-sharing, which would cancel the funding for his IMAX film project. So for the last episode, the TIV guys are torn between acting like jacka**es, and keeping their project funding. Just a little more drama,... noting to be concerned about.

Probably quite a lot, maybe as much as 10K miles or more. Doing 3-500 mile jaunts for each successful chase, figure once every week or two, for an entire summer,...

Kind of reminds me of a dog chasing cars. What do you do once you catch one?

I just saw that, Talk about the hunters becoming the hunted! Luckily they walked away with minor injuries!

with all the respct due to samaras...who i really liked watching tornado chasers...

I am really surprised considering samaras reputation for caution and safety that his rig was not caged.

that's a total shame, and a serious over-sight.

I wish they would have caged that rig. It could have made the difference.

Hope the storm chasing community takes this into consideration.

Edit: I'm editing this, but I'll leave my original text above since it still counts.....I was under the impression that the rig shown in this thread was Samaras....it's the weather channel rig correct? I see the occupants made it out of that one, eh? they're DAMN lucky!

Now that I see the samaras rig.....i dunno how someone survives damage like that, cage or otherwise. damn shame.
