New Pics of My first JEEP PROJECT

Yes, I got new bolts at the dealer. Ran about $16, and you only need 3. Just take one set of the older bolts, bash on them and they will probably be mushroomed. Then when you switch to the other side, remove the good bolts and thread these mushroomed bolts back in. I have 3 that I use as hub removers on axles.

Well still waiting on my buddy to come by so while the axle sits in wait. I decided to start on replacing my front brake lines. Since this vehicle is 25 years old i just cut them off with a dremel.

Then picked up a 20 dollar flaring tool from o'reillys. Worked great.

You are halfway there. Good job on the progress.

Well the ole 44 fought me on removing the shafts and carrier. Finally read where people install the drum backwards and beat the crap out of it. Finally the 44 gave up and released the shafts. Only to fight me on getting the carrier out.

I wonder if the gears have been changed on this in the past. The seals are different and there was no slinger or crush washer for the pinion. Everything just seems different. Spent most of the day grinding off rust and treating the rust i couldnt get off. Axle almost looks new with the fresh paint.

This is how it sat prior to pulling the rear axle.

Got about a inch and a half diff over the front and rear not to happy about that but i have a rear bumper ordered so i hope that will squat the rear a lil bit.

What did you order??:viking:

Full springs or aal in the rear? Do you have extended shackles?

Hopefully you got full springs. What kind of rear bumper have you ordered? Hanging a spare out there puts a lot of leverage on the rear springs. That should help then settle. ..

I posted pics of the lift kit on the previous page.

I would never go AAL. I was thinking about adding a shackle once o got the bumper but dont think i will need one now.

I am a member of cherokee forum too and there is a vendor by the name of HudfabXj. He has been putting out some sick bumper for a reasonable price. 750 shipped. It is a tire carrier style. So yes i am hoping that weight will help me level out.

Dang busted a bearing trying to remove the pinion seal. I had to use a punch and hammer to get the seal out and that meant hitting the old bearing. Was hoping to use it for setting up new ones. Wont be able to now.

Question. Dana 44 axle seals are just o rings? Or is it a well formed rtv seal. Feels rubbery like RTV.
