Project "girly" jeep

damn skippy.... ordered steel for the truss today, making sam go pick it up tomorrow while im at work

I'm sure you had to twist her arm to get her to go pick it up! :roflmao:

you mean the cardboard wasn't the finished truss?! man, I thought that was going to be SUPER strong! :D

ok so i did finish building the rear axle however i have no pictures..... i had to accelerate the timeline since my truck blew the trans to pieces and im all out of spare vehicles. the silver lining here is the jeep is running great and now that the gears are broken in properly she's driving it everywhere. i drove it home thirty miles with the cruise control on at 70mph...... gotta love it

and for anyone who has an 8.25 that they have put gears and a locker in and dont want to give up that investment but want disc brakes i HIGHLY recommend the zj brake swap. i have just as much money in the swap as i would a complete brake job and spent an extra 20 minutes clearancing out the backing plates for the new housing. well worth it and the jeep will stop on a dime now.

After you brought that up the other day I went out and bought all the stuff for the ZJ swap and a dual diaphram booster, MC, and proportioning valve off a 03 Grand. Just gotta put it all on now. I can't wait to be able to stop well.

I was thinking about the disc upgrade. is it hard to do?

nope, the only real work is grinding the inside hole of the backing plate a few mm's wider to fit the larger 8.25 axle tube.... other than that its all bolt up, even the brake lines. Ive got just over 150 bucks in the brakes but that includes new discs, pads, lines, hardware, parking brake shoes, caliper bolts and sleeves, as well as the backing plates themselves. So pretty much for the price of a complete brake job you can ditch the crappy drums

Initially i was worried about maybe needing a prop. valve because of the different hydraulic cylinder size but it stops very well with no dive. the pedal is solid and it will lock down all 4 35's without an issue

on another note she managed to pull off some efan carnage ive never seen before.... for no reason at all the electric fan blade exploded in half

Thanks for the heads up on the brakes... but how did you manage the carnage with the efan?!

LOL damn!

Haters gonna hate.

No doubt. Doug do what you want you have been around enough to know what is needed and what is not. If I could start over I'd probably build something like the "girly" jeep just so I could wheel more then once or twice a year.

a set of shafts and cv's for under 1k with a you break it we fix it warranty? i dont know why everyone isnt running rcv's in a crawling 30. the shafts are where the money is, ove got 200 in the axle and 85 in a cover thats not pictured

realistically shes not pushing enough power, tire size, or harsh driving style to warrant a bigger axle.... and parts are cheap and everywhere, i just bought a used 4.56 r&p for the 30 in the buggy for 30 bucks!

if she drove like tim id bling out a 44 for her..... but shes a zen wheeler so components have a pretty long life for her

Just read through the whole thread. I love that Jeep. Simple, effective and well built.
And score on the girlfriend.

Thanks! Ya its simple and effective but that leaves less room for issues out on the trail. I've also upgraded her to fiancee status so looks like.the good times keep rollin!
