FOX Air shocks

I have been hunting for REAR shocks for a while now.

97 xj 5.5" lift

My shocks on the back are toast. I have no Idea what mounting setup/ inch of travel I should go with. (stock mounts / custom....etc)

I have been looking at The Fox 2.0 12" or 14"Travel Air-shocks.

Would this be something to consider?

My rig: Mostly mild Trail rig. Not daily driver but I do drive it around a lot. Bought with the intent to punish. I live in Kansas and I do see a ton of ruff dirt/rock roads.

They run about $230 a piece.

I plan to keep my lift at 5.5 inches.

I have kicked around different ideas. Not really sure. Suicidedoors.com makes 4links for "mini-trucks" (one of my old hobbies)... They are really reasonable on their prices.

Are the Air shocks something that could be used with The leafs? I know that they are made to stand alone but maybe it would work...

fox 2.0's are a great shock. keep your leafs! rear 4links are a large project. and 4-link kits designed for cars are just that, designed for cars. (and minitrucks are still car's, compared to a jeep that see's offroad abuse).

What would be a better option? Which shock for leafs? I'm open to pretty much anything that will last.

i run a set of bilstein 5150's in the rear and love them, but mine also are through the floor cause i'm at 4.5" of lift and they are 14' travel shocks

they're older pics but still alright

just used a small body saw to cut the holes

bilstein 7100's would be comparable to fox 2.0's. anything more then a 2.0 is overkill... unless you live in the desert! im looking for a pair of 14" 2.5" bypass shocks for outback personally.

what are you trying to accomplish?

I was trying to figure out how to seal it up. That would be the only thing to keep me from doing that.

I am happy with the price of those shocks.

cj t-case boots and some zipties sealed mine up great when it was a DD

I need shocks. I don't want to buy something to "just get me by" and then change it later.

Honestly I do not know what I NEED.

Its a trail rig/off-road toy. I will most likely never take it "hardcore" rock crawling. But I like to think I will use it pretty hard. It will be used off-road on ruff terrain/trails/hills/. I want it to ride nice and function better. It is not a daily driver.

I really new to all of this.

Search around in mod tech for shocks. This gets covered pretty frequently. I'd also look up at the FAQs on the main page, or the stickies here in the mod tech forum. You'll need to measure you flex, both full droop and full stuff. You'll want to remove the existing shocks to do that. Once you have your measurements you can start picking out shocks that'll match that.

Nothing wrong with a 4 link rear I will never understand why there are so many people on here that down it so heavily. Now granted I would never link the rear that has a stock 35 or possibly even a 44. what axle are you running now? Planning to go bigger?

I say forget the 4 link if your not going to a bigger axle. But like you said you dont want to just do a quick fix, and if its not a dd the only issues people have with 4 links is the daily driving issues.

I got lucky enough to snag a set of four sway away's 16" travel air shocks for about 30 bucks cheaper and saving shipping otherwise id have gone with a set of fox air shocks. great shocks.

Only reason Im doing a 4 link is because i have a 70 goin in the rear.

The Blisteins are a great shock with leafs rs9000s arent bad either and id say stick to 12 inches or youll have to cut into the cargo.

the reason i asked about the 4-link, is the OP didnt mention it at all, and it seemed like he wanted to run the air shocks with the stock leafs, which isnt the best way to go.

nothing against 4-links, i cant wait for mine. but it can be a big project.

I have the stock Chrysler 8.25 now. And then a d30 in the front I believe. I know that these should be upgraded... But I'm going to buy a set of auto lockers and run them for now. When I trash one or find the need to upgrade then I'll start looking around to go bigger.

12" or I have to cut. Thanks for the info.
