Q about Leaf Springs...

One of my buddies gave me 4" lift blocks off his truck the other week for my Jeep. I asked my cousin if he would come over and help me install them for a day, but he said using the lift blocks will probably break my leaf packs because they are so worn. Is this true? My leaf pack are almost straight at normal ride height.

it can be
lift blocks tend to make for more axle wrap
if your going to lift it lift shackles are your best bet
for a 2" lift there cheap and allow for more flex

4" blocks are going to cause nothing but issues. If you want four inches of lift then get a complete kit, or build a bastard pack for the rear. There is no cheap way to get 4"s.

You can spend the money to do it right the first time or spend it over time repairing what those blocks will tear up.

4" blocks will toast your leaf springs and increase the amount of wheel hop you will have. If your leaves are flat that means they are sagging anyways.

It's not free in the long run. When you break an axle due to axle hop cause of a block that is too tall then those free blocks now cost you 150 bucks. Or lets say it strands you on the trail when it inverts the spring and spits the block out. Now you are down a rig untill it's fixed. Or what it you are going up a hairy offcamber hill and it decides to spit the block and you end up going rubber side up then how great of a deal were those free lift blocks?

4" blocks are not a good way to go. I had a 2" block add a leaf and a dropped shackle for about 4.5" lift and it worked great. Never really had any problems with axle wrap and it flexed pretty good. Not as good as my 3.5" leafs and 1/5" teraflex shackle set up I have now but it get me through some rough tails. If you want a 2" block I still have mine from when pulled them out about 3 weeks ago. Ill sell them to you if you want. Sent me a PM if you want to talk about them.

Stick them on craiglist some redneck mud runner will get them from you.

If you want a decent lift cheap search "Bastard Pack Rock Lizard" And you will find a good write up on a 3" budget boost that cost the guy less than 100 bucks IIRC.

Type in bastard pack in the Mod Tech forum.

I bet those blocks are wider then the 2.5'' spring width of the XJ. So even if they were a good idea, they wouldnt fit.

What do you guys think of these products? They are cheap and local; 3 autozones within 10 miles of my home.

Would 3" blocks be ok, or should I just stick with 2"? I'm not looking to do serious offroading, I just want an aggressive looking vehicle that's capable of more than it is now.
