1993 Jeep 4.0 Timing Chain Help

The procedure whereby you need to count '15 pins' to ensure the timing chain is installed properly. Is this applicable to 4.0's with a single or a double chain?

My 1993 4.0 has a double chain and it seems impossible to have the timing correct using the '15 pin' alignment rule.

The auto parts place sold me a single chain design and the links seem longer? Perhaps if I install the single chain & sprockets the '15 pin' rule will work? But my thought is to stick with the double chain.....HELP

Thanks much

Sounds like you might have a different chain pitch.

My usual test is this:

Install with marks aligned per FSM (usually, co-linear between shaft centres.)

Rotate crankshaft one full turn - the crankshaft mark should end up in the same place, with the camshaft 180* around. Verify that both marks and shaft centres are still co-linear.

Rotate crankshaft one more turn - marks should end up right back where they started.

5-90
