Sorry if you fail to have a owners manuel you can always call the dealer..

I'am running 80w-90 GL-5 in my three . 87,99 XJ and 96 ZJ.

I've heard running the heavy 75w-140 in the rear.

If you have a towning package and tow at all you should put full synthetic 75w-140 in the rear diff unless you enjoy replacing gears. Otherwise, as indicated 80w90 is what's called for.
 
Thanks Guys but I do have a CD FSM that I bought a few years after owning my first XJ. Got tired of the Haynes and relegate it to the 'Beer Bottle' cushion project.
