I would like to get a head count on how many Utah XJ owners will be going to the 20 Year Cherokee event down in Moab. If you could tells us:
-Name
-What days you are there
-Where you are staying
I would like to see if it is possible to pick a day during the week long event to gather at one location. We can all meet one another, check out the rigs and talk shop. If you have any ideas on a place to meet and best day for it contact me at keith@windriverdev.com
I know NAXJA has many great things planned for this event and time might be tight for some. But a couple of hours of chewing fat might be fun with some local boys, help us establish a Utah chapter and create more Utah trail runs together. Thanks

Me and my dad are wanting to go but with the recent wreck of my Xj. we might not make it. If we do though we will be there all week and there will be two of us.

Slickrock Campground. Reserved for space 186. (?)
Wed. or Thur. evening would probably be best for get together.
Things happening Tue. evening.
Things happening Fri. evening. :twak:

Sat. evening, I, along with probably everybody else, will be winding down from the week and for the trip home on Sun. :speepin:

That's just me though.
Thanks.

climbon, I think that you are on to something here. Maybe we could find an area in the park during the vendor display, or even Slickrock campground, where we could display our state flags and take a few minutes to sign in as a member of that state. We could give our information that may possibly lead to chapters in the near future. As you were saying, it would give us the opportunity to meet and give us a short introduction time. I thought I would just throw this in and see what you think.....

Of course I'll be there....never miss it. Dates: 7-11 Oct, staying at Slickrock CG. I agree with Casper that the best day might be the vendor/show-n-shine day.

Also, most everyone meets at one or two campsites at night to shoot the poo, so there's plently of opportunity to get to know one another.

I like your idea Casper very much, Sice Moab is in "our" backyard this is a great chance to open up the welcome wagon and show some Utah unity and pride. I will purchase a portable 20' high flag pole that can break down into peices and a large Utah flag for our gathering. If any one else has more ideas please let's hear it. This could be a fun gathering and hey we could even have our own Utah XJ parade down Moab main St. with all the flags flying. All of you that have responded so far pass this info on to others. Thanks

On more thing, if we can get this idea out to all the other states about raising there flags who are coming that could look very cool across the slick rock campground. Casper, what do you think would be the best way to do this. Also, is NAXJA going to have an American flag raised during the event? Thanks

Not sure about flying State flags down Main............. but the idea of promoting local chapters at the Vendor/ShowNShine is a great one. Good job Casper! Since we've had a difficult time getting everyone together for a planning session on the Wasatch Front, we can use the event to bring together those from outlying area as well.

My wife and I, accompanied by our 9 month old, will be going down the 8th till the 11th. We'll be staying at the Super 8 (roughing it), but its pretty close to Slick Rock CG. Look for us in the rather large Cherry Red XJ.

I'll be there, like several of you I don't know exactly when, but I can garuntee Friday afternoon through Sunday 10th - 12th though I would like to be there the whole week. If I can make it the whole week then it would be from Friday evening (3rd) through the 12th. Traditionally I just sleep out under the stars somewhere, If I can make it the whole week I may stay with relatives in town. This is a good idea Keith. I'm thinking that we don't have to meet just once, we could have a during the week get together on Wed. or Thur. afternoon, then have another on Sat. or Sun. before everyone bails for home, hopefully this would cover everybody?

Looks like thursday October 9th would be a good day for all the Utah XJ owners to meet somewhere to find out who we all are. Are there any suggestions on a place and time?. My idea on a place and time will be 10:00 am in front of "little or baby lion's back" just on left side of road and before the main parking lot for slick rock state park mountain bike trails. Please lets have some feedback on this. If we really want to move forward with a Utah NAXJA chapter in this great state, I think it would help first by meeting each other in person. What better place and event to do this at. We have had some great trail runs in the past I would like to see that grow with all XJ owners through out the state not just inside the Wasatch front. We have plenty of time to pull this off so what do you all think? let's hear it. Thanks

XJEEPER
August 15th, 2003, 14:53
Although there aren't any official trail runs listed for Thurs., I'm sure that many will be out on unofficial short runs before the show n shine.( Ask me how I know....) We'll have time to hook up in the afternoon at the park, and we can get the Utah Chapter planning underway. Thanks for staying on top of this.

I'll look for your flag........;)

What time dose the show and shine start at? and what would be a good time in the afternoon to hook up at the state park. Thanks

David B
August 16th, 2003, 08:39
Why not do a short, Utah guys run on Thursday and meet and greet at lunch? I'm not sure when the show and shine is, we wouldn't want to miss that. I can't believe there is no Hells Revenge group run this year, probably because the group will be so huge. But, we could always do that one so we'll be close to town. I'll be getting in late Wednesday and I don't really want to wait until Friday to do a trail.

climbon
August 16th, 2003, 22:31
I am up for Hell's revenge, one of my favorites. I will be up there early to register but we can meet and greet then hit hell's revenge and do lunch before or after? and discuss a chapter. I want to see the show and shine but any time for hell's revenge is good with me on Thursday.

JeepXJ92
August 16th, 2003, 22:39
Does someone have a secure web site to maybe post cell #'s?
when we get in, we can call whoever and hook up and find everybody?
I know there are a couple Hams going down we could hook up on a repeater but not everybody likes to carry around an HT.

Especially where we are all coming in at different times, I would rather not drive all over town lookin' for people.

Just a thought......

climbon
August 17th, 2003, 13:13
That is a good idea. We still have plenty of time to figure out time and place for a Hell's revenge run on Thursday. With the trail run being close to the entrance gate of the state park it should be easy to find each other. We just need to find a time to meet there on Thursday. I will be camping in the state park so I can get there any time to help collect people as they come in. Just look for the Utah state flag and I'll be kicking it below. So is the show and shine all day, morning or evening. Let's get a time set soon and I will be there. Thanks

Hey Everyone,
Looking forward to meeting you all. Think it is a great idea to start a Utah Chapter. Will be there 6th thru 12th staying at the Landmark Hotel. Look for us in our 85 XJ w/ alcan front and rear springs w/ utah flag. Sounds like a great idea for the trial ride on thursday. What do you think about setting up a CB channel?

Throttle Boy

climbon
August 17th, 2003, 23:12
You name the channel we will set it. I also wanted to say thanks for a great response from all of you. I just got back from the Uintas last weekend and found some beautiful high alpine meadows to camp on. I thought it would be fun to set up a ride that could take us back up there before the snows set in with our families and friends to hang out or even camp. We can figure it all out later, but looking forward to meeting you all too.

The show n shine and Vendor show will be Thursday afternoon around 3pm so there will be plenty of time to wheel a short trail. If we all parade into the Slickrock Bike Trail area together then plan on coughing up $5+ per rig.....unless you've already paid. The main reason for not doing the annual HR run is group size and timing of other events. We could run HR backward in the AM, have our Chapter org meeting, do HG, the Hottubs, Tipover etc and be back to town before the afternoon stuff starts. There may also be an informal run up to the Rim that morning so we could do that as a Utah group as well. As Trail Coordinator for this event, I'm not sure where I'll be needed on Thursday so I'm not being non-commital, just have to be dynamic.
:)

climbon
August 18th, 2003, 19:46
I like the plan very much, lets then do a morning run with a meeting after so we can high tale it over to the show n' shine. When will we know for sure about a rim run? I would do either. And how soon would we be talking about in the morning to meet for a run? XJEEPER I know your plate will be full so what ever you can come up with would be appreciated, the key is to get everyone to gel at one place at the same time.

XJEEPER
August 18th, 2003, 23:12
Not to throw a twists into the topic, but it may be easier to gather the Utah herd without the many distractions that Moab offers.............we still need a fall run on the Wasatch or Uintahs, so may I suggest that we plan a run closer to home to collect our Ute clan. Maybe some intros in Moab and wheeling with whoever can make it and then a post-Moab Wasatch or Uintah run as a more official planning event? Just some food for thought......eat it if your hungry.:D

JeepXJ92
August 19th, 2003, 07:10
That sounds like a plan to me.
I have noticed that, like me, there are gonna be a few that aren't gonna make it till friday that would like to be part of this Utah Chapter. I think that a trail ride thru the uintas is perfect. I would like to hit the uintas once more before I have to do it on a snowmobile. (ummm...dreaming of fresh, deep powder.....) sorry my thoughts ran away from me for a minute!

climbon
August 19th, 2003, 09:34
I'm up with that a Uinta or Wasatch run would be better for what we are trying to accomplish and yes there would be alot of distractions. There is no question that we will run into each other at Moab and if we have time for a short run then we do it, we can chew the fat at the show n' shine. So with all of that is it Uintas or Wasatch and then what date.

JeepXJ92
August 19th, 2003, 15:23
Where is the "Wasatch Run"? I could go for a new trail! Uintas is nice but I like teh Idea of a new area to learn.

climbon
August 19th, 2003, 15:27
It's not a run I was talking about the mountain ranges, which one do we want to go into to and then find some trails.

XJEEPER
August 19th, 2003, 22:46
If collecting as many Utah area XJers as possible is the goal, then let's pick a run that will allow as many as possible to attend. Hard core is always fun but we don't want to exclude anyone so it should be a run that stockers won't feel intimidated. I'd like to explore areas of the Uinta range that offer some wheeling, camping and scenery, so that's my vote.
If that's too far to drive, there's always American Fork or Providence/Millville Canyons.

Now, who knows a place, what's the drive time from the Wasatch Front, and what's the date?

climbon
August 20th, 2003, 11:43
I agree, that is my vote. Like I said I just got out of the Uintas last weekend been up there photographing the lighting storms and came across some real nice alpine meadows at 9,500ft. I would be real happy to lead a bunch of us up there, nice place for camping. Reason I would choose Uintas is it's alot cooler there in the day. We would go through Kamas and then up and over to Cold springs (about 1.5 hours away) but worth the drive. I would like to shoot for the first weekend of September 5-7th or when ever you want to leave. We can meet in Kamas late friday or early saturday morning in front of Dick's drive thru. Dick's is located on the mirror lake road just before the high school on your left. If this seems to work I will post this on the unofficail trail runs and get the ball rolling. Now I still think we should make an effort to look out for each other at Moab and see if we can squeek in a run together. Reply ASAP on the date and give me a time you think will work best. Thanks

Alright, then it is the 6th of September that we will have our first meeting regarding the Utah chapter. Since it looks like some of you have to get home early and want to meet on the 6th lets meet in the Wasatch range @ Tibble fork res. We can do what we did on our first unofficial trail run, Forest lake and mineral basin. It is fun enough for all level rigs and the only place that unmodified XJ's would have to stop is at the rock garden. Same time @9:00am in the parking lot. As I did last time, I will have a drawing for those who show up. I know we have all been up there a thousand times, but it is close and I want to see Mbryson kiss his tranny pan again on that big house boulder he tried to get over. See you all there I will post this in the unofficial trail run for all to see.

So where is that Unofficial trail runs thread Keith? I'm tired of lame excuses for not making it on a trail run (Hear that XJEEPER?!!!) So count me in on the 6th at Tibble. Oh, by the way, I will have something for the "raffle" as well. No, it is not a Dynatrac Pro Rock 60 like last time. If we are going to actually come together on a local chapter this time, we need more participation. No bailing out on Friday at Midnight. Also, we should do EITHER Forest Lake OR Mineral. It was a long day last time. I suggest Forest Lake because the basin can get awfully crowded on a Saturday.

I can do both trails if I don't bring my son. He can get cranky after too long a day. Hopefully this time we won't get stuck behind a big crowd of drunk Suzuki Owners again. I think there's a lot of interest in getting a large group of locals together, but time is tight for a lot of us right now. That's the reason I suggested a formal get together after the Moab event so we can do some chapter planning as well. We should all be better educated as to what is involved in starting and running a local chapter with the info we glean from those at the event who have already been down this road.

It's official, I have the Wednesday the 8th through Friday the 10th of October off so I will definantly be down there from those days through Saturday and maybe Sunday! only a few weeks away!

At Mineral Basin we discussed doing a "locals only" unofficial Fins & Things trail I believe on Thursday the 9th, meeting at 9:00 AM I think(climbon?), in the Slickrock Bike Trail parking lot a little ways past baby lions back. It will be good to get together for a run and do some more chapter formation discussion while we are all down at Moab.

The ZJ is welcome. Is the teardrop painted to match your XJ? :)

32 days............

With Everybody coming and going on different days, I think a formal get together after Moab would be a better idea.

I agree, hopefully alot of us Utahns can get together after Moab and before the holidays and have a real formal style planning session. I think XJEEPER was the first to suggest that idea and I am interested to see what he can come up with given his experience with NAXJA etc. We shall see after Moab.

In the mean time if you are going to be down in Moab on Thursday Oct. 8th, the idea was submitted to get together any Utahns who can make it that morning and do an unsponsored run on Fins and Things together . If some can make it, why shouldn't we kill two birds and discuss the Utah Chapter issue? I think it is a great idea for that reason and the following; I for one am going to be there that day and I would love to run that trail for the first time with you guys so I'm definantly Interested! Who else can make it?

PS I suspect the title of this thread is somehow confusing to out of state folks.:)

We had a pre Moab run up at mineral basin and discussed a Utah chapter. We had this run posted in the "un-official trail runs". We all agreed to meet on Thursday the 9th @ slick rock parking lot just past Baby lions back. We will be running fins and things "local Utah people only" so no one has any majior breakage. I will be there so I hope to see everyone else. Just look for the Utah flag boys. Later

as things are going now, I'll most likely be there friday sometime, staying through sunday, possibly monday. not sure if I'm bringing the wife yet, if she comes then the kids come too. I also may have two rigs to drive, the hero, if it survives the super crawl next weekend, and my pile, if I get some tube work done.

I don't remember what time they said for sure (I didn't pay too much attention because I didn't know I would be able to make it at the time) but I'm thinking it was set for 10:00 AM. A body could get up early and could make it to Moab from the Wasatch Front by then! Thats what ACE and I will be doing Wednesday morning but arriving by 9:00 am (yawwwn) can't wait!
