XJ D44 shafts

sidriptide

nobody of any consequence
obviously an 87 axle i'm refferingpto. are the shafts the`{ame as TJ D44s? or CJ D44s from the few years prior? someone (non-XJ type) told me the other day it was a total odd-ball axle with no aftermarket shafts available.

say it aint so!

XJ and TJ D44 shafts are the same. CJ shafts, as mentioned earlier, have a different bolt pattern and I know the narrow track are too short, not sure about wide track. Also, as mentioned earlier, left and right axle shafts are different lengths, I forget which is long and which is short but the short one can be used on both sides in an emergency to get off the trail, it just wont have alot of spline engagement.

Alloy USA makes 'em, Superior has a dual pattern shaft as well. And I believe Dutchman makes them too.

XJ and TJ Shafts are identical. The use different retainer plates. CJ shafts are different lengths from the XJ and TJ. Like 91jeep said there are numerous aftermarket suppliers, after alot of searching, I am partial to the ALLOY USA shafts. You can get a whole kit; shafts, bearings, studs for around 270.00

They are close but not same. IIRC the TJ ones are shorter by about 1/4" on each side.
nope just put a set of TJ Alloy USA's in mine and they measure the exact same length. The only difference is the retainer plates, which you can get XJ plates or retainer plates from a D35 non cclip will work as well....

I have TJ alloys from a unknown source. They are 1/4" shorter but work fine. I set them side by side and they were in fact shorter.

Well, TJ shafts ARE shorter then XJ shafts. It's possible that Alloy USA makes them same length as XJ ones, but stockers are different length.

Stock XJ shafts were being discontinued when I ordered my last replacement, so I wonder if now they're not shipping the TJ ones as XJ ones due to such small difference in length, but as of a year ago TJ shafts were shorter then XJ ones.

I have a set of spare tj shafts for my rear 44 too and I don't see any difference that I can remember(been a while since I looked at them). Maybe you were measuring the long side of an xj shaft and comparing it to the short side. They are different lengths after all from side to side-----------Kyle
