That was probably computer sychronized, like fireworks are nowadays.

My wife....who is a huge Chrismas freak...who actually posts on a forum like this deditacted to Chrismas (yes I do know how weird that is thank you very much) Said that is exactly how they do it. That you can actually buy all the stuff to do it.

She says on that forum there are several houses like that.

who cares how they did it, thats cool as hell!

not including putting up the lights;

you could make the light show over a period of days with a theatricle light board and program

or take pictures of the possible light combonations you would want to use and crank the video out in about 12 hours.

either way it kicks ass

Look at the bushes at the bottom of the screen. They move claymation style - as in stop-motion. In addition incandencent (tungsten filaments) need more time to light up and turn off. LED maybe, but the yellowish glow looks tungsten.

uhoh, you've woken the computer engineering student...:D

Definitely computer controlled. And without buying the $1000+ Christmas Kit, cost depending on how many expension boxes you'd need, here's how you could hack it together:

get something like this relay controller board, wire your christmas lights into it, hook it into a multi-channel IO controller, plug that contraption into an old laptop, write some timing code to play an MP3 and switch on/off based on timing events, and have fun.

actually, that looks kinda interesting......
