i have seen in many posts that no 2 xjs are alike, but i would like to ask this anyway. does anyone with an older xj have around 4-5 inches of lift, and not use a sye, and cv driveshaft? will shims, and a t-case drop be enough? i 'm really looking forward to lifting my xj, but really hate to shell out the money for something that i might not need.

thanks for any help

Need is the word in question

the stock output isnt the strongest design and its ability to grab enough splines and not get pulled out during flex (i assume that you are lifting the XJ to wheel and flex it) come into consideration.

the reason to get the Slip Yoke Eliminator is not only to cure the terrible vibrations - but aslo to strengthen the drivetrain, cure some u-joint bind caused by the increased angle that Jeep didnt design for, and (in the case of the 96 and older) seal the back of the t-case incase the rear driveshaft ever needs to be pulled out...

given that:
HD SYE runs 170 shipped to your door
a front shaft and convertion will run you probably 70 - making your out the door total 240 - i would be willing to pay that rather than put up with some potential problems and band-aid cures...

does it make a differance if i have the poop got 5spd? does that change how long the tail shaft may be?

do you have a web addy for the HD sye you said about? and is there a tech article some where on the front shaft conversion?

no the tranny wont matter untill you get into driveshaft selection - and that will only be importiant long enough for you to drive your POS to the driveshaft shop for them to lengthen it

funny you should ask -

because there is a thread in mod tech (right on top of yours) that has that info...
