going to drop the pan and clean the screen, which is better?

Thanks,

I use both. Smear a very light coating of silicone on both sides of the gasket and bolt the pan up. Works like a charm. Did the same on the valve cover and it didn't leak one little drop. :)

Both surfaces clean and dry.
Run a straight-edge over the pan flange to be sure it is flat, if not fit that first.
Use the gasket dry.
Evenly torque the bolts in a criss-cross pattern to 10 ft-lbs.
It'll never leak.

Spend a few bucks and get a new screen from NAPA, it comes with a gasket. You can read my first post to this forum on this very issue.

Thanks,

Found the NAPA pn on their website, pick it up today.

Napa also has some gaskets called tuffcork. I think you add TC to the part number. Not sure if they have one for your particular app. They are cork on both sides with steel sandwiched in the middle. They are a little more money but seal great and can't split initially or if retightened later.
