Loose front wheel studs

I have a set of spare unibearings. Some of the studs are loose from them being shipped. I know I can just hit them back into place but I was wondering about putting a tack weld on each of the studs so they don't work loose with the lugnuts being tightened. Also what is a good way to check the unibearings to make sure they are still good? They turn pretty freely and there doesn't seem to be any movement up and down or side to side but it's pretty hard to check just by hand w/o a wheel on it and not being mounted on a knuckle. Thanks.
