Gasket or RTV for transmission pan.

Gasket. Took me like an hour get pan off because the PO has RTV'd that thing on there. Seriously, spend the couple of bucks to use a gasket.

Neither. I use "The Right Stuff"

don't use gaskets they have failed on me twice haven't had a prob with RTV yet

I had my share of failures from gaskets and that's why I posed the question looking for ideas.
Thanks.

I use RTV. Takes me maybe 10 minutes to get it off the pan. I never have good luck with gaskets and transmissions.

You're supposed to straighten the pan with a ball peen. You know, un dimple it where the bolts pull it in. I do it across the flat on the back of the vise, RTV breaks down and the excess squeezed out floats around in there.

I avoid sealant wherever possible, and RTV above all others.

If you have dimples on the pan where the bolts are you are tightening the bolts too much.
