I have heard of people using a yj driveshaft instead of getting a SYE. Is this possible with a 98 cherokee Np242 and 8.25. Now I only want to lift maybe 4.5-5.5.

I believe you are referring to using a YJ yoke with a standard XJ 8.25 driveshaft....
This will provide more clearance for the ears where the U joint caps are pressed in....; which decreases binding during flexing....
The use of a YJ yoke is only a bandaide or temporary fix for the actual problem....
The only true fix for driveline vibrations when you lift a 97+ XJ is to install a SYE and set the rear differential pinion angle....
