most of the auto jeeps i have seen have 3.55 gears and the 5 speeds have 3.07.
my gas mileage sucks. 98 auto with 6 inch and 33's gets about 10-11 and mabe if im lucky 12-15 on the highway. with stock 355 gears

Thanks, I was wondering about the gears and have really been considering 4.10s with my 31" MTRs so I can also put in some lockers.

I have a 85 xj 2.5 5 speed 3.73 gears getting 18 in city and 24 hwy at 70 . I have seen alot of people say the 2.5 are gutles its no tire burner will can burn about 20 ft in first and get a good sec gear scratch but can run 70 with no ploblem on interstate never have to down shift and have peg the speedometer passing a lot of times 85 ml speedometer its a DD nothing done all stock with 224,000 motor rebuilt about 10,000 ago .

Just remember, you keep speed below radar and your foot of the throttle, you will be getting good MPG!
My Jeep is 98 with over 100K miles on the clock, its a DD, with 4.10, 33 rubber, front hublocks, and sagging 6 inch of lift. If I keep my speed below 65 and restrict myself from blowing Japs-glasspacks from the stop light, I get 17-18 MPG. Otherwise MPG drops to 14-15. I do approx 50/50 Hwy and city!

mine sucks gas like a pig
2.8 5spd 3.5" lift 33x12.50 tires 200lbs of winch and bumper and about 200lbs of tools and subs in hatch
240 kilometers 50 liters
corrected for 33" tires(15%) = 276 kilometers x .62 conversion to miles = 171miles
50 liters 3.78 liters in a gallon = 13.25 gallons
so that would work out to 13 miles to a gallon as long as all my metric conversion numbers are right (someone tell me if they are or not)

thats with a heavy foot, city driving and a shitty carb (when i stomp on it i can smell the gas) and a daily driver to boot

now that it's cold and a couple of feet of snow all over the place my mileage is getting worse now instead of 240 km's i get around 170km's or about 9 miles per gallon. holy f**k i need to do something about this

12-14 mpg mixed hwy/city on a '90 4.0, automatic, 3.55 gears, 31x12.50's. I tried a rusty's air intake, MSD ignition and a less restrictive muffler to no avail.
This is also on a newly rebuilt motor.....

I did a recent tune-up and tranny flush

Stock height with 30's and I drive 70-75 on the highway

I got 23mpg on the last trip from Buena Vista, CO to Laramie, WY

In town I get about 16-18 (18 being Laramie; 16 being anywhere in Colorado). I have a really light foot and piss people off when taking off from lights
