Okay I didn't read the thread...

Your J-Bolt is too short; I've seen the short J-Bolt before (my chief had one). I'd drop by a wrecking yard and pick one up.

Alternatively you might be able to find it at a parts store or dealer.

in my '89 I just made a longer "J" bolt out of a long bolt to hold the 30' in place. Too bad it is not long enough to do the 31'.

Drifto77: Looks good and secure. Any concerns about the edges cutting into the rim?

Never thought about that. I did go look at it toady after I saw your post though. Its not cutting into it. Guess if it does start I could take and put some rubber under the ends of the old Ford tire holder. It is pretty secure though.
