When I went to the local? axle shop for big trucks and asked for some U-bolts; they asked me for the "L", "W" & "D" dimensions from this diagram:

(I didn't buy them from here, just a handy diagram)
I got 8.5, 3, 9/16... They were about $8 each with nuts and washers.
They were grade 5. They said all U-bolts under some size (that I didn't bother to remember 'cause it was way past anything I'd ever use) were grade 5.
