transfercase swap

ok i own a 1985 jeep cherokee with the gm 2.8l v6 and the np205, and i just bought a 1987 jeep cherokee with the 4.0 I6 and it has the ax15 5 speed trans and the np231 transfercase and i think the transfercase is bad so is it possible to swap in the np205 out of my other jeep and put it in my new jeep?? well thats only for now till i can get me another np231 or beter!!

I could be wrong, but i'm pretty certain your 2.8l did not have an np205 in it..

I'll just hop in here instead of a new thread ....
I have a 85 XJ 4cyl, 5sp, NP207 AM3 and access to a 90XJ 6cyl auto and NP242 J.
Does anyone know if I can swap the 242 in place of my 207?

I "searched" and this thread is the closest I found so I hope I'm not !!!1
