Solo Lift Party

I went against everyone's reccomendation and started the lift project today by myself. Figured everyone was headed to big bear anyway...

So...borrowed a 33gal air compressor and impact wrench and started tearing things apart. After a couple of trips to autozone to "borrow" some tools I managed about 5-6 hours of actual work.

Front end is up on jack stands right now. Steering linkage, shocks, springs and sway bar links are all removed. Right LCA is out but the left forward LCA bolt is stuck. Though I used PB Blaster all week...this one just won't budge. So...I'm going to soak it tonight and spray it again before driving to big bear in the Subaru tomorrow. Hopefully sunday I can remove it and the UCAs and replace the brake lines.

Everything that I have read says..."torque to spec"...has anybody listed the spec numbers? I don't have a haynes or chiltons book.

If I can get the front done by myself than next weekend I can do the back...

Thanks again for everyones advice. See you in Big Bear...I will be the guy driving the Blue Subaru with the hot red head in the passenger seat and the 3yr old in the back watching DVDs.

you can go to autozone.com after you enter in you xjs info
go to repairs for upper and lower control arms ect.. and
it will give you torque specs.

This is from the factory service manual for 88-90
Let me know if you need more.
I'll be up for another hour then catch some ZZZZZs before getting up at 5:00 to get ready and leave for big bear.
Good Luck

Okay...after taking a day off to drive up and check out BB in the subaru, I finally got back to work around noon today. As far as I can tell, the "remove" steps have all been completed for the front. The remaining LCA and both UCAs came out over the course of a couple of hours. The UCAs both required a little blow torch action to heat them up enough to break the 15mm nuts loose, but otherwise its been an easy day.

Brake lines are coming off next...

Ok...so for so good. As of 8pm tonight, the jeep is supporting its own weight again...on its tires. A few lessons learned:

1. Some things even PB blaster and time can't save. Have a game plan for the rear shocks BEFORE you shear the bolts off.

2. Never underestimate the number of tools you need. I lost probably 4-8 hours of project time going to various stores for pickle forks, pitman arm pullers and various sized wrenches and sockets that I didn't know I really needed.

3. If you go with a hybrid kit, remember that everything is a tradeoff. The unintended consequences for a great deal or part that you want may end up in spending more money by having to replace a perfectly good part in the original kit with another. (Fixed LCA vs Adjustable LCAs)

4. Just Empty Every Pocket is not theory...it is the law off JEEPs.

Next step...Hack and Tap SYE.

Uh...beleive it or not...I haven't had the chance to learn that particular skill yet. Besides...Its still in the garage.

SYE went in over the last two days. Started bleeding the brakes today but ran out of fluid. Adjustable lowers and swaybar reloc bracket should be here tomorrow.
