Please join Blue Mountain Jeep Alliance (BMJA) on Sunday, August 22, 2010 to remember one of our great friends, Shawn Laity. Shawn was a very active member of BMJA and was the kind of guy that would do anything for anyone. He always had a smile on his face and never walked away from someone in need.
Shawn was taken from us on his way home while traveling on Route 724 in Reading, PA. It was a very freak accident in which a tree fell on his truck as he was driving. He leaves behind his wife and his 5 year-old daughter. As well as many friends, family, and fellow wheelers.
This event will be held at Rausch Creek Offroad Park (www.rc4x4.org). Come out Saturday August 21st to watch Rausch Creek’s own RCrocs rock crawling event and wheel on Sunday in Shawn’s memory.
There will be many opportunities to donate on Saturday at the RCrocs event while watching some awesome action.
There will be a ton of raffle items on Sunday from a bunch of different sponsors and companies.
Proceeds from donations on Saturday and Shawn’s Memorial ride on Sunday will go directly to a savings bond for Shawn’s daughter so she can put it towards paying for college when the time comes.
Shawn drove an ’88 YJ, but this event is open to any 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Please come out and show your support for Shawn, as he would have done the same for anyone else.

Hopefully a few from the NAXJA crew can make it out to this and "represent". I didn't know Shawn personally, but have spoken to quite a few BMJA members, and it sounds like his family and our wheeling community lost someone special.

I would really like to make it out for this ride, but I will be getting back from a business trip Saturday evening, so I will not know if I can make it for sure until the last minute. We'll see though, if nothing else, maybe I can ride shotty with someone.

Yeah I should be able to make it, but if not I'll send a donation along with another guy...

BH97TJ, do you know if there's a way for people who can't make the ride to make donations?

:patriot: I could never turn down wheeling for a good cause, i will certainly do my best to be there!

You guys are awesome as always.

For those of you who can't make it, but would like to make a donation, you can make a check out to:

Blue Mountain Jeep Alliance
PO Box 568
Wilkes-Barre, PA 18703-0568

Mention in the memo: Shawn Laity Donation

One of our Trustees, Dwayne, is Shawn's brother-in-law and when the donations come in, he will be taking them directly to the bank for Scarlet's savings bond.

All standard (normal) R/C fees still apply, and they are:

$35.00 fee for driver / vehicle
$7.00 fee for each passenger
$15.00 fee for annual pass (if not current)

When you check in at the office, the lovely girls behind the counter will be asking for donations towards the benefit ride. Please do what you can! Every little bit helps. Then look for the group and organizers with the green or yellow vests. They will direct you to the proper group and raffle table.
