Radio Communication? (Who had what) CB, Ameteur radio, ect

Yep, Whether it's a tower on a mountain, or a satelite, on VHF and above, there is no substitute for height. Most space borne transmitters are low power. You just don't need much power when nothing obstructs the signal.

For sure!

Here is a site click on your state and look at the 2 meter and 70cm repeaters around you! Being a medic I really understand that concept!

Check out K5EHX's site as well - he has a google maps app that will show you approximate coverage for all listed repeaters that cover a given location you enter. http://k5ehx.net/repeaters/qrepeater.php - example, http://k5ehx.net/repeaters/qrepeater.php?id=9702 is the repeater I usually talk on while bored during my commute (I graduated from WPI and still stay in contact with a few people there)

so I guess since im at least at 5,200 feet im set for sending to space lol I spend most of my free time at about 9,000 feet!

I actually had in my last XJ a SSB CB, a dual band VHF/UHF Amateur Radio, and both VHF and UHF public safety Spectra 110 Watt mobile radios. If I get my way with this current XJ, I will likely go with the same setup again, but add rear control heads for the back, when the hatch is up, so I can still use the Spectra's when I am in the rear and need to communicate. I may also run an extra remote control head for the 5100 Yaesu Ham radio, to be able to detach and reattach it remotely as/when needed. I am working to make either one of my Travelers or the XJ into pretty much a mobile command rig as needed for communications, with the ability to communicate in times of natural disasters or emergencies. Call sign is N9YEQ by the way.

KB8WDL/Technician license here, just getting back into the hobby although I've had my license since '04. So far I only have a Yaesu FT-60 HT, but I'm looking into a mobile radio for the rig, and also trying to talk the wifey into getting her ticket. It really isn't all that difficult if you have some electrical and mechanical knowledge, and the test bank is available if you just want to study the correct answers to all the questions.
