Its all "wrong".... but its FUN!

OK, wasnt going to post anything of my rig. But here goes nothing.

Rear springs were flipped, and Front was stretched to give it a 110 inch wheelbase. I know this is "wrong" to do without a traction bar. Im ok with that Im saving for air shocks. Front control arms are still mounted in stock location on the frame, but with the stretch the arms are approx 21 inches. Mid arm setup I suppose. All Joints are Tractor Supply Heims. I am fully aware that they are "wrong" to use.

Steering is full hydro, running off the stock pump, but i need to increase the reservoir. It works now, just overheats a little. Tractor supply ram and everything was bought used.

Suspension is an old 3 inch lift kit that is now more like 1 inch lift, a set of Coil spacers, and longer shackles. Again, not exactly the right way to lift a truck.

Front axle is HP 44. welded. Rear is 9". again, welded. Not right, but works. Gears are 4.10, and Im working on getting a Box for rocks kit with 231/231 combo, simply because i have an extra case.

Stock gas tank is inside the jeep. I put it farther inside so i could see better out the back of the jeep.

I cut and doved the rear, I know I Will get smushed if i roll this jeep. I assure you it will get a full cage before its next trip. I also narrowed the hood and inner fenders to make room for the stretch.

Tires are bias Iroks 37x14x15 on beadlock wheels.

I made this rig to be a low slung, wide, very stable rig. and so far. It works fairly well. For the money I have in it. It is VERY capable. Only been out twice with this setup. So far I plan on Drive Flanges for the front because i broke a hub. Always building and going, and always fun.

Any other CO guys have deja vu?

Pretty much the same "cheap and wrong but works" rig. Same hydro setup (same farm ram even), same meats, etc...

PS, don't be surprised if a mod moves this to a different forum.

Yeah, I figured it would be moved. Actually kinda figured it would just be deleted entirely. People hate on you when you build something for cheap that IS capable. I know there are 100 rigs on here that will do anything I will, I also know there are 5000 that wont. and they spent more on theirs.

Really just wanted to show what you can build if your really broke, but want to go wheeling.

I see no reason it'd be deleted, but when a mod sees it they'll likely move it from Non-Tech/Off Topic to Mod Tech.

Hey word of advice man, you're gonna wanna do something about that steering setup ya have. Mine ended up killing the pump, I could turn the wheel infinitely in either direction and the wheels didn't move.

where do you live in MD! Bring it to RC for the rocktoberfest thing! And what year xj is that?

oh and im no expert, but isnt it a really bad idea to have your stock tank right behind your seat? I feel like in a roll it could leak all over you. I think thats why people buy fuel cells.

Its not that cheap rigs aren't capable. Its when they are cheap and Scary that I have a problem with. Cage it and beat the snot out of it!

I live in baltimore. not sure about the Rocktoberfest, I will be down to RC on OCT 16th with my TJ on 34s. The cherokee wont be coming out until it gets a cage.

Sadly, this jeep is a 99. Heres what it looked like when i first put the wheels and 31s on it when i first got it.

Thanks for the heads up on the steering. I might look for a different pully, or a different pump all together.

Fuel cell would be great, but up to this point the stock tank has worked. i know its a tad dangerous, but it will have to do for now.

WOW man please tell me the build was due to an accident! I have never seen a late model cherokee built like that, seen a 99 WJ though.

You have it on a trailer... ok, what you do with it and how you built it are fine by me. My only real negative comment was gonna be "I hope to hell you don't drive that thing on public roads!" but you have that covered!

IT'll FOLD LIKE A TACO!!!

PS: I love what you've done with it. Looks way better after the three years you've been running it :D

Heres what it looked like

Mods delete this please. ;) I think you've been hanging out on the wrong forums if you think people will get pissy because you built it cheap. This is an XJ club. Many bought XJs because they're cheap and so are we! We're open. We won't mock you for building it cheap if it work; don't mock those of us who bought bolt on whatever since not everyone can fab.

nice to see things work that aren't from either a yard (scrapped vehicle), catalog, or an actual 4x4 place!
CHEAP WORKS!!!
remember these are XJ's, not benz's!!!

Darky, it's not that WE are cheap... we're just BROKE! like our jeeps, lmao.

side note; think about a tractor steering box/pump? (again from tractor supply maybe?) or a mac truck steering box/pump? would think either would be stronger/ more able than the stock one.
