How's the poor economy working out for you?

Due to your sarcasm and passive aggressive questioning I’m going to assume you’ve made some great career choices. :)
But, to answer your question, I work for a wireless broadband company that developed WiMax and is the world leader in 4G technology. Going on three years now and I get sent everywhere to build out our network. The downfall is the amount I have to work when I’m not in my home market and not being able to see my kids as much (I’ve been in Chicago since last Sunday and I’m already at 161 hours). As our network grows, so does our headcount. Win, win.
p.s. You were much nicer at NWFest.

It is nice to hear some people are doing good. I use to have a boss that told me. You have to shoot while the ducks are flying. That was also while I was working 12 to 16 hour days.

Best of luck to you and save some don't spend it all on your jeep.

:farmer:

Get it while you can.
I'm taking vacation in December into January with my family and although I’ll get paid for the entire time (month), it will be nice to have some extra spending money for my wife to spend on the kids. ;)

I support anyone that would choose to join the military. It sounds odd to say, but I think the world would be a better place if more people went through boot camp.
i think you're right. i wish i had had time to do it straight outta high school, but now i'm too far into life, and have more important stuff goin on for me now. i got told i was a retard for thinking i have no business in the middle east. i guess that's how some people feel about it.

So let me get this stright he is a tard for having the guts to out . And not play it safe like you.Not knowing what is going on with him. Your gonna pass judgement on him. It's like me not knowing who you are and saying your a lazy coffee drinking can't pass a p.t test pouge NCO.

Hey, I'm not trying to be a total a**hole. But it kinda ticks me off when it sounds like somebody is disparaging the Army, that he chose to enlist in. And the fact that he is currently homeless and thinks it's better than being in the Army is exactly that.

And yeah you don't know me and I don't know him. But from what I can read in his post that is my honest opinion. Oh, and BTW yep I drink coffee, smoke cigarettes too and still got a 293 on my last APFT a month ago. Old age is great.

Later,
Ren

For the record, when he says "homeless" he doesn't mean living on the streets, he means he doesn't have a home of his own.

Yeah okay I got it. But dude if somebody tells me they're homeless. The first thing that comes to mind is living under a bridge with a shopping cart in downtown Portland or something. Not staying at a buddy's apartment or house.

I didn't mean it that way. You are in a nice Nitche in Hi Tech. Enjoy it. I was just curious what it was. If you look at most hi tech companies and technology, there is usually the fat N happy phase. Then comes the race with Taiwan / Japan and other technologies as the market matures.

You don't see to many tech companies doing well right now.

Curiosity led me here..

Graduated last year, Sept. '08, economy was tanking, have a BS in Digital Media. No work. Got a Certified Nursing Assistant certificate and then all those jobs disappeared. Working in a hospital though, maxing out at 80 hour work weeks, but still not getting by. Left roomies for parents.

Seriously considering the military. I should talk to a recruiter, but I'm not sure which branch. I can enter as an officer. My only goal in life right now is to pursue helicopter training. Civilian/ private sector is gonna cost a bunch and if no work, then no training. Looking for some feedback on the branches, or maybe some PM's.

I eat healthy, I weigh 165, I'm almost 25, I would love bootcamp, I can commit to 4 years, but is it worth it?

Don't talk to a recruiter! Talk to people in service. Recruiters have a quota and will tell you what you want to hear. I scored a 96 on my test and still kinda got played.

I played bait and switch. :D I hooked up with an airborne recruiter, who told me 'everything' about airborne infantry...then once we started going on runs and stuff I started running with the MP who worked outta the same office. Original recruiter got credit for me, but I went MP instead of Airborne. :D

If you got played, it's because you didn't do your research or know what you were trying to get from the Army. So how did you get kinda played and why do you think your ASVAB score has anything to do with anything?

Do your research first, then go talk to a Recruiter. As soon as you feel that the Recruiter is trying to feed you a line of bull, go find another Recruiter. They are all over the place.

Sounds like you may be a good candidate for the W.O.F.T. (Warrant Officer Flight Training) program. If you go straight O.C.S. (Officer Candidate School). You "DO NOT" get guaranteed your branch, ie.. Aviation, Military Police, Infantry.

Not all Recruiters are about the numbers, some are actually out to help people out. Stick to your guns and don't let a Recruiter try to tell you to just go into the Aviation field as an enlisted member and then go Warrant Officer later. Yes it is more work for a Recruiter to process a WOFT packet but it's about what you want to do, not what the recruiter wants.

Sounds like we've got quite a few bitter people her serving that didn't do their research or either had a piece of crap Recruiter.

BTW, I am currently a 79R Army Recruiting Station Commander that has also been to the ASI "V7" (guidance counselor course). So there isn't much about any Army program or enlistment option that I don't know about. I've done OCS and WOFT packets, as well as enlisted Journalists, Veterinarian Assistants, Dental Specialists, Special Forces Recruits, you name it. If you talk to a Recruiter wherever you are at, and you want to ask some verifying questions of me just send a PM.

Congrats on serving and doing what you wanted to.

BUT, this is what I'm talking about, people who have know idea what the heck they are talking about. There is no such thing as an Airborne Recruiter! Maybe he was airborne qualified, but that has nothing to do with what job "YOU" end up doing in the Army. You could have been working with a "92G" Food Service Specialist, that was a detailed Recruiter and went Military Police. Then you make smiley faces as if you got over or something. What's that about?

I didn’t join the Army; I was 17 and signed up with the DOD just before the Persian Gulf War with a waiver for my age.

And, I was too intelligent to join the Army. Sorry, but let’s be honest; the Army is the bullet proof vest of the other branches and for the most part, no longer needed due to the Navy and the Marines. I understand your pride, but it’s blinded. Remember back in the day when you had the choice of joining the Army or serving your time in jail? There’s a reason for that. Keep in mind, I still think you are a douche for your retarded comments about Tom, who just got back from Iraq, being homeless.

PD... don't talk to a recruiter until you've talked to people in the service or have been in the service. Seriously. You will get great things from the military, but it can be so much better if you know what you can get and know how to get it. If you join the military you should be rewarded for sacrificing yourself were others have not and you should know about what is there for you as a “thanks”.

Easy on yourself, the first recruiter I talked to was an Airborne MOS...which I had been interested in. I had walked into the office, looked around, and saw who did what based on their uniforms and insignia. I went to the guy with the Senior Parachutist Badge and Combat Infantry Badge, because I *had* done my research (which, oddly enough, was the Airborne book by Tom Clancy...which I later gave that recruiter when I decided to go MP instead). I later got to know the MP in the office once I was already 'in' DEP, and changed MOS once I learned more from him. It was in talking to him that I learned of the combat side of MP, instead of just garrison work. I know there aren't specific recruiters for specific MOS, silly rabbit. Go drink some water.

Oh man, Wow, yeah you sound like an absolute genius. Signed up with the DOD with an age waiver? Why don't you enlighted me as to what DOD Regulation covers that? For a 36-37 year old, you sound about as mature as if you were still 17 yrs old. When you become a subject matter expert on the Military, any branch of it, come back and interject your smarmy comments. Until then, please quit spreading half truths and your extremely uninformed opinions, as if they were facts. Because obviously, you know not of what you speak.

Oh, and I believe you may be mistaken as to what you scored on your test, way back when. You probably got a 96 GT score, not a 96 ASVAB score. And if you don't know the difference between the two, well then.

Then exactly how is that bait and switch? And why the smiley faces as if you pulled something over on somebody when you actually just got to do what you really wanted in the first place?

Congrats again on being an MP!
