Good 4.0 performance ECU?

I did read the thread (posts back to '05). So far all I have read is 'talking'.

Granted the article I posted is from Nov. '09, so maybe someone has figured out how to reburn a Mopar ECU, but I don't believe christune.com is it.

If you have real info (that means supported by documentation, not hearsay or marketing claims) then please share as I am interested.

Actually, he can. People in this thread, including me, have had a tune done by him and it does work. It was also available way before that article in JP was written. Besides JP is hardly real tech info. There is a reason I no longer subscribe to it.

Remotely? Or he needs the ecu in calif? What all can he do?

By realtime I mean throw your jeep on the dyno and adjust every aspect of the ecu in realtime. That means he doesn't build a cal, flash it to the ecu, run the car, make adjustments to the cal, reflash the ecu, etc.. He has an ecu that he has modified to run a customer interface that he built so he can tune it in realtime like an aftermarket EMS and when he's done he flashs that tune to your computer and send you on down the road with a properly tuned jeep.

CobraMarty, Chris can build a mail order tune for your computer, and you can either buy a flasher for it, ship your computer to him for reflashing or buy another ecu from him pretuned. Shoot him an email [email protected]

Which unit are peoples using for flashing?

or buy another ecu from him pretuned.
Word of caution. If you have a thick light grey headed key or you know you have the Sentry key system a dealer will have to reprogram the PCM to match the Sentry key system. It can be driven to the dealer if you unlug the Sentry key module, or if you unplug it is will also disable it.

That is NOT true, Chris can handle that from the ECU side to make it a plug and play swap.:repair:

I was talking about when you buy a new unit from him, never used on your XJ. Is it still true in that case?

Yeah, all the SKIM cares about is that the VIN that is programed into it matches the VIN in the ECU. The data from the SKIM doesn't need to be downloaded into the ECU per the service manual, that is only needed as a backup for the keys your have learned to your SKIM, in case the SKIM fails you can plug a new one in and upload the saved key data from the ECU.

Yeah if you want reliable email, ditch yahoo.

The are the bane of every email admins existance.

hi guys new member here and I'm happy to say my 1997 Xj has 300k miles and I'm starting to have issues that I expected to have one day. I broke down a while back got towed ect. My distributor went ok so I replaced it set it at TDC. So my Idle was erratic and after getting shafted by a few mechanics sensors were changed, ignition harness was changed, and my truck continued to run like S--T. Then suddenly she started to backfire as if off timiing. Suddenly there was no spark to get started, Got shafted yet again by a so called short specialist. No short was found. I towed my truck away because I got no answer to my problem. I asked another XJ owner for his opinion. He told me it could very well be my ECU. So I went and bought a refurbished plug and play unit with a lifetime warranty and I installed it. To my surprise my truck started right up. But the Idle started to rise just over 1 thousand RPM. That Idle is too high. Can anyone give me some advice here This XJ is my BABY I have alot of money invested in her and she has been great to me for 18 years. I just want 1 more year. What can I do? is it the ECU? does it need to be reprogramed? I appreciate this site for letting me post my problem here. But most of all I appreciate the members who take the time to read my post and give this old fellow XJ owner some help. Thank you

Your new ECU will need some time for adaptive learning of your engine's sensor outputs, so I'm sure the idle will settle down once you've accumulated a few miles.
