Fly by wire???....huh?

Cute, but stupid. :dunce:
The computers aren't any threat - it's your benevolent socialist President. Just think how much safer and more fuel efficient you'll be when the Anointed One starts taking care of all those dangerous decisions for you - like where to go, when and how fast, even whether you Really need to take that trip in your "personal" vehicle or should use the much more environmentally friendly and socially egalitarian mass transit.
I can't wait!!!!!!

Althought far fetched, you probably aren't all that far off.

Did anyone with a brain even think that somebody like Obama could be elected? Years ago they'd probably be called crazy! And look today...hmm.....

But OOPS....back to the original topic!

Yeah, but years ago they were called slaves. Back on topic....

LOL wow this got off-color fast (was that a pun?).

Back on topic...

I drove the gf's IS tonight. It's an IS350, dunno why I keep calling it an ISF, big difference. While it does HAUL, upon first acceleration I see what you guys are talking about. Huge delay in the pedal. Now when you're doing 80 in thrid gear and mash the pedal, it's a totally different story. But from a standstill, it definitely has a lot more lag than my cherokee.

Some larger marine outboard motors have electronic throttle and shift controls now. The scary thing about this is that with an outboard motor, when you lose the ability to shift, you can steer that thing back and forth as much as you want but it won't make any difference if your not in forward gear. So, that takes away your steering, now if you lose the ability to shift into reverse there goes your stopping ability. I don't know about the throttle response, but I think it is a terrible idea to have this technology in saltwater in the middle of the ocean. At least if the unit in your car fails you can call a tow truck.

Here's a great example of how you can think you are feeling delay in the throttle servo, but you are not. There is no way the delay magically exists from a stop, but doesn't exist at 80mph. What you are feeling is the huge difference in torque at idle between a 4.0 and the Lexus and how the torque converter is working. The IS takes off instantly at 80mph because the engine is already spinning up at higher RPM where it makes power. That's the difference. Not that the throttle blade moves faster when you are driving faster. I won't speak in absolutes because there are a bunch of different systems out there, but to say you can feel a delay CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE BY WIRE SYSTEM, on all or even most newer cars is just not realistic. For example, my brother's old Audi TT had throttle delay. Absoutely. But was is caused by the throttle by wire system? No. It was because it was a guttless two liter with no torque. On the other hand, I don't think there's a single one of you who would claim to feel a delay in my 2001 Z06. It's got a throttle by wire system that came out in 1997. Why? It's the engine that is capable of instant throttle response. Can you guys seriously tell me you've never driven a car with a mechanical throttle cable that also had a delay when you stepped on the gas? I bet you have. But if the car has the system, it gets the blame for the delay you feel every time, doesn't it?

He may be talking about the Grand Cherokee (common dummy mistake to call a Grand Cherokee a Cherokee) or he may be refering to the Liberty, which is still called a Cherokee in Europe...becuase those damned Europeeeons don't like our term Liberty!

That sucks man, even in some dealerships it has happened to my that i go there to get some part and I tell the guy there, for a Jeep Cherokee (XJ to make it obvious) and He still asks Cherokee or Grand Cherokee!!
