I've got an 01 Xj with an auto tranny. Was looking into an engine swap but I'm not sure which way to go. Needs to stay smog legal and pass federal (not cali) emissions. So that tells me it needs to be out of a vehicle thats an 02 or newer and use all the original smog and fuel injection.
Right not I'm leaning towards the 2.8 CRD out of a liberty for fuel economy and the 290 ft lbs of tourqe. BUT an LS1 out of a vette would put out some serious power and prob not be that bad on gas if you could keep your foot out of it.
Also looking at buying a scrambler to offroad due to my XJ is still "pretty", if that happens the CRD looks even better as a tow vehicle/DD, then stick the vette motor in the CJ8.
What do you guys think? What motor would you like to run in your heep??
