For some reason, I couldn't use my vacuum switch in a 2000 np242. It's been a while, so I don't remember why, but 242s were never mated w/ vacuum axles. Anyhow, this is pretty hoopty, but you can just block off one port and apply direct vacuum to the other and it'll work fine. I did it as a temporary fix a few years ago, and haven't ever bothered to fix it right because it hasn't left me stuck.
