I need to change my rear wheel bearing and axle shaft as they're both badly brinnelled and growling something awful.
The shaft and seal are out but I can't get the old bearing out. Can anybody suggest a method that doesn't involve using the pukka Jeep tool? Taking the other shaft and carrier out to knock it through from the other side is also not an option.
I've been trying to use a slide hammer puller, borrowed from work but can only get one leg behind the bearing as the puller's a bit big so it's obviously not an even pull. Does anyone know if the Sealey type slide hammer puller kits on Ebay will work? Are they small enough to get behind the bearing?
Two of the rollers have now come out of the bearing and the only other way I can think of is to very carefully cut through the bearing race with a Dremmel disc but I'm not sure if that will work as I assume the bearing race is hardened.
Any suggestions welcome!
PS. I searched but couldn't really find an answer.
