Converter not unlocking?

Vehicle, 87, 4.0, auto, 242. I had a cracked/broken bellhousing. I removed the trans, removed and replaced the bellhousing, at the same time I changed my 231 TC to a 242 TC.

Now it feels like the torque converter is locking all the time. It feels like it is locked up in all gears. When I come to a stop, it feels like the engine tries to speed up for the load on it, and then Rpm's drop and the engine almost stalls. Sometimes when stopping at a stoplight, it feels like the engine is going to die, also the jeep lacks power (like the converter is locked up).

Before I changed the bellhousing/transfer case the engine and trans ran fine. About 20K ago I had the trans rebuilt with a new rebuilt Torque converter.

After I changed the bellhousing and ran into the locking/unlocking, I took the Jeep to a transmission specialist in Tulsa, they R&R the fluid, replace the filter, did a ? point checklist and said the trans was OK.

I have now moved to Nashville (towed the Jeep). Looking for any assistance.

Would the TPS cause the converter to lock and not unlock?
Does anyone have instructions on how to lock and unlock the torque converter manually, ie a switch.

Also any suggestions on a Jeep Specialist in the Nashville area?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike, Im sorry I dont know any Jeep specialists in Nashville, or do not really know what the cause/solution to your problem is. But I will tell you one thing. I was working in Nashville about a month ago and the tranny went out in our work van. We took it to Mr. Transmission on the northeast side of town and had it rebuilt. When we got it back it would not shift thru the gears properly, so we were forced to stay an extra day. Took it back and they said it was the clip that holds the TV cable to the TB. They fixed it and off we went back home to Texas. the thing almost made it to Houston when the tranny gave up and died again. Drive was around 1200-1300 miles. Like I said, I really cant help you solve your problem, but I thought I would share that with you to keep you from going to a place that will NOT FIX your problem and make you waste your money. So, it may be mean of me toward Mr. Transmission, but avoid them like the plauge.

Mike
