metal hatches started in 97 with the revised body style, and as far as i know they bolt right on.

I have a 96 with cracked hatch, soon to be replaced with one from the "Pick-N-Pull", so have been "studying" hatches. Metal started in 97 and has the hinges mounted internally and a different latch mechanism in the door. It should fit, I just dont know what will keep it attached. From my lifting experience, the weight seems close.

you'll have to do some heavy modifying to make the newer hinges work on the old style body, they did some decent changing in that area, don't even think the older style hinges will work on the new door, but its metal so you could brace something in there to help.

you could add a leaf to pack on the right side and put a rubber in the front right spring
