roof racks/ light bar let me see them

Does anyone have any experience w/ utility/police lightbars? I've thumbed through some Gall's catalogs in the past, and some of the non-colored setups look like they sure would work well in an off road situation. They sure as hell light up bright when they appear in your rearview! On that...

Writeup on Liberty KJ discs on 8.25" Cherokee XJ Conversion

Good job on getting this out there for the Cherokee world to see. Makes sense the parts would be compatible, Jeep is notoriously cheap. Sorta wish I would have gone this way, though I don't know about compatibility with my XJ D44. I paid $550 for the Tera kit from Summit Racing. The only...

    Radiator plastic drain-petcock replacement

Great repair! My Jeep was given to me by a friend that had overheated it, replaced the water pump to no effect, and then driven it hard until it wouldn't run. It was so hot it scorched the hood. He then called me up and said he was done trying to fix it, and that I could have it if I could get...

Finally figured out why my N.P. 242 kept dis-engaging my front drive line!!

Thanks for your post! I'm glad you finally got it working, and I think your experience will help me get mine working again, even though I have a slightly different problem. I also have an NP242, but my problem is that when using 4FT, after just a short while it will disengage both driveshafts...

Welcome back Mr. Heat... and cheap t-stat housing

My jeep seems to be runnin' @ around 140º (negative temps after sunset), so I bought a new 195º tstat, but I'm being a wuss about putting it in in 20º daytime weather. I believe the last owner put in a 160º unit because of an overheating problem. I solved the overheating problem w/ a new...

small hole in the side of NP 242...

You're good...it's not leaking. I believe I stuck a bigass screwdriver in there when I split my case (NP242) to change the chain last winter.

    air conditioning help

Thanks for a more helpful reply. It lets me know how little I know about A/C. For some people, restoring A/C functionality is as simple as plugging a bottle in and letting it go. It seems that for most other cases, this job should be handled by a professional (or at least with someone...

    NP 242 Locked Up

Really? Why can't anyone talk about a 242 w/o sombody else chiming in w/ this crap? Some of us like our 4hi-FT position, and won't give it up.

    air conditioning help

Re: air conditioning help (OLD post bump) I'd like to attach to this thread because it's already a nice repository of information on the subject. Like a lot of people, I decided to try and make my AC work because it's been getting hot out and I guess I don't like my clothing to cling. Does...

    NP 242 Locked Up

The linkages look nearly the same, sorry still no pic. There is some difference between the two in the length of the arm mounted on the shaft coming out of the tcase. When doing the swap that you have, it is possible to bolt the arm on 180º from its correct position. In that case, when you pull...

    oil filter adapter leaking?

i'll hafta second the "don't use rtv" part... i grabbed a new adaptor from a 1991 because i wanted to use the correct year filter on my wrong year (1990) engine...just some anal crap about not having the parts messed up by a oil change shop in case i'm too lazy to do it myself. anyhow, the...

    More HP from the 4.0

is there a whistle w/ a bored throttle body? i know my fipk whistles like crazy around 3000...not sure where the turbulence is, but it'd be nice to get rid of that.

    Dana 30 Tech

For some reason, I couldn't use my vacuum switch in a 2000 np242. It's been a while, so I don't remember why, but 242s were never mated w/ vacuum axles. Anyhow, this is pretty hoopty, but you can just block off one port and apply direct vacuum to the other and it'll work fine. I did it as a...

Addressing the sway bar @ 3" on a budget

Is it always necessary to address the antiroll bar links, even with mild lift? I just have a 2" urethane spacer over my springs, and my Jeep seems to pop and groan like the bar binding and contacting the springs. Is this normal with just 2" or did I put something together wrong?

    89 to 93 engine swap

My swap was the opposite, I put a renix long block into an HO. The intake and exhaust bolted up, though of course there was some misalignment between the two. The newer gasket worked for my app best, so I would assume it's best to use the gasket that mates to your intake. I just left the...

    ZJ's allowed here? :)

Base model Cayenne only has ~270hp...weaksauce in a car that weighs over 4500lbs Anyhow, I'm done. I wasn't raggin' on your 5.9...just the one I've been driving. It's a case of an especially fast Cherokee and an especially slow 5.9 Limited. I now drive an auto Cherokee, and it's completely...

    ZJ's allowed here? :)

Could be just this particualar 5.9. Hafta get under it and pull the cat, which almost none of my other cars had. Just a cat won't make much difference, unless it's plugged. As a 5.9 owner, you should know, I'm sure you've smoked plenty of regular Cherokees. How would you say it compares it a...

    ZJ's allowed here? :)

Yes, and a Cherokee is nearly as fast as a base Cayenne too. I haven't raced one, I'm going by magazine numbers here (vs my number in the base model Chero, as magazines almost always tested limiteds w/ AW4s). In an actual side by side, but w/o timeslips the was almost exactly neck and neck...

    ZJ's allowed here? :)

ummm yeah...the mopar LA isn't a dinosaur? and yeah, it's a lot bigger, and makes more than 50% more torque, it was a great engine in it's time. there's something to be said for jeeps w/o options tho.

    ZJ's allowed here? :)

I'm aware of the specs, I used to be a big 5.9 fanatic when they were new. There must be something wrong w/ this one...maybe a plugged cat. Off the line, it's great, but the engine feels more wheezy in the top end than the 4.0. Base model 4.0 (2 door)w/ 5speed and 3.55s, showed a 7.5 0-60 on...
