Where did yall buy your SYE/CV rear driveshaft?

I decided to do the short shaft conversion on the 231, and a woody for the drive shaft. To keep that shaft as long as possible.

    2 inch Budget Boost

my guess.....going to 3.5, you'll need a slip yoke eliminator and a new driveshaft. Yes, the shims do change the degree of the driveshaft, well actually the pinion on the differential, which connects to the driveshaft, thus changing the angle. Get to the height you want and then figure out...

    Hi-lift jack

xjtrailrider - what's in the tuperware? Since you are a mechanic by trade, it might be helpful if you shared what you carry (list or more pics). I know I'd appreciate knowing. As far as the jack goes - I once had an amplifier fastened to the back of seat. I ended up taking it out because...

running out of ideas with this heat

Agreed with the above post - doesn't sound bad or wrong. You've done a lot, what's left........high performance water pump, somehow checking for clogged coolant ports in the engine, making sure there is no trapped air in the system? My temp is the same as yours and when it hits ~220 the fan...

My brother wants his '00 lifted - help me out

Going to 4.5 you could still get the vibes even with a 1" tc drop and 4* shim. If one has to drive it, be prepared to hackntap or fix your yoke, and get a new drive shaft.

    Hi-lift jack

I like everything in there.............especially that perty tree saver. That thing is definitely a virgin. And that tuperware is awesome - fits perfectly. I try to go well prepared too - you've inspired me to organize my stuff a bit better.

Opinions On Removing The Fender Flares

Great work Justin. Your rig looks nice. Besides looks, the flares serve a purpose, which is to keep the tire spray down. I get really tired of running with rooster tails all the time - makes a mess of everything. Of course it rains quite a bit here in the northwest. Just something else to...

    4.10 or 4.56 gears

22mpg. That's awesome! Have you checked your miles using a gps? That tire to gear ratio may be giving you a false read on the odometer. But to the question at hand.......I have 96 auto with 4.56 and 33's........not sure I like that on a set of 31's. But I'm on the highway quite a bit, and not...

    2 inch Budget Boost

I actually like the rocky road plan for a 2" lift better than the re. Add a leafs and shocks. hmmmm. But, it does depend. Do you like the way you leafs are feeling now, or do you want to firm 'em up a bit? The add a leaf will stiffen your ride. And typically supple is good - stiff is bad. The...

    Electric fans worth it?

I don't see a fan shroud with those electric fans. That would make me suspect.

    2 inch Budget Boost

be warned, my first lift was around 3" (ome) and I got the vibes. Then I needed to spend several hundred more converting the transfer case to a fixed yoke and of course that required a new cv driveshaft. Some even say vibes can come in the 2" range. Blocks do get a bad rap here, but check out...

Where did you mount your CO2 Bottle?

Lot's of crazy stories flyin' around. I'm sure more than exploding Co2 bottles. I fabbed a small carrier and mounted 3/4 inch rubber pads on the side panel where the original spare tire went. Then I used two nylon straps to cinch it down. No rattles and plenty of hose to reach all tires.

    leaf slider

I'm glad you agree that talking a theory through, with other experts, is good. Because one could learn something from another's experience prior to fabrication. I'm gonna hold out for a few more chimes (inputs), but it's still an interesting idea that might have some legs. The prototype is...

    leaf slider

Here is a link that shows a picture of a leaf spring slider. This is a heavy duty one and I believe this type could hold up to spring twist as well as a shackle. I do believe the slot would need to be longer though. This isn't necessarily what I'd use, but for conceptualization only...

    leaf slider

plus at droop and compression as the shackle pivots the rear eye of the spring goes up and down, which is travel. a slider wont do this, maybe you could mount it at an angle Good point. I thought about drooping it fully and noting where the shackle eye stopped, and then compressing it fully...

    leaf slider

Ya, I agree. It could be hard on the slider. I did find this in the tech article lancey3 attached. "You can eliminate any static leaf spring twist by shimming or angle milling the axle mount or lowering block, or by angling the leaf and shackle frame mounts. However, twist will still develop as...

    leaf slider

This isn't a contest of winners and losers. Rather, a collaborative invironment to explore ideas. I'm sorry you perceived me as "shooting you down". That was certainly not my intention. I read the tech article you sent (thanks, it was very good and I appreciate you actually finding research...

    leaf slider

Ha ha, you remind me of the US patent office director in the mid 1800's who said, "all that can be invented has been invented". He was spot on uh? So....it seems more and more of these sliders are being put on leaf sprung wranglers and suzuki's. I saw several at the Jeep Jamboree in Naches WA...

    leaf slider

A slider would actually be less stressful on the frame. As a shackle arcs, the forces increase and then decrease again. Often people have their shackles installed incorrectly (with the angle greater than 90 degrees at normal ride height) and also at full compression a shackle often slams into...

    leaf slider

Thanks....I understand what your saying. But when I draw it out, it appears the loss of travel is minimal and possibly nonexistent with the proper length on the slot. Think of where your shackle eyebolt is at full droop, and then where it is at full compression. If a slider was made and...
