Driveline Vibes @ 60+, Squatting Springs at Speed?

Need to resurrect this old thread, I'm still battling this issue. Here is a recap: My Rig: - 1998 XJ Classic w/ 2" Lift (Coil Spacers in Front) - Stock Front Driveshaft - Stock D30 Front Axle & Gearing Symptoms: - "Droning" Noise above 60 mph (w/stock tires), gets worse the faster I go -...

Wich stock replacement springs? HD or not??

Thanks, all good info. My old stock springs were stamped "RPN706AB" and their free-arch was ~6.75" (after 10 years of use). I'm assuming these are the 52000706AB springs? If so, then they would be LN's, but I haven't found much data on these. My XJ from the factory was 4.0L, 4x4, AW4, Tow...

Wich stock replacement springs? HD or not??

These are the springs I put in my XJ 4-years ago, only paid $89 (each) for them! Like I said, I wouldn't go with them if I had to do it all over again. http://www.4wd.com/Jeep-Lift-Kits-Jeep-Lift-Kits-Suspension/Heavy-Duty-Rear-Leaf-Spring.aspx?t_c=1&t_s=101&t_pt=4113&t_pn=CRO4886185AA Tim...

Wich stock replacement springs? HD or not??

I put the HD Crown springs in my XJ back in 2008 (along with a 2" budget lift). It sure gave the rear end a nice little boost, but now 4-years later and with a Rusty's skid plate and Rock Rails/Sliders, it looks like the rear might be sagging a bit below the front ride height. The rear...

Engine oil! ZDDP! Rabblerabblerabble... A testimonial.

I think the point is that with the newer "SM" grade oils, the amount of ZDDP has been reduced. It is a proven fact that the EPA has mandated that the levels be reduced, the oil companies will even tell you that. People's experiences before the ZDDP levels were reduced don't apply here. The...

Does the 97-01 Heater Core Box Design Limit Airflow?

Thats why I'm posting this. No-one else has a Digital-Thermo Anemometer Laying around? :) Yes, I agree, but my point is that the core asside, Chrysler put a bunch of plastic shrouding around the heater core (to keep the cold air cold in the summer I'm assuming). If you look at those pics, the...

Does the 97-01 Heater Core Box Design Limit Airflow?

In case no one clicked on the link at the top, here are the pics I was referring to, compliments of xjguy98: To me it looks like the airflow going through the heater core is way more restricted than if you just wanted cold air. Makes me wish I had the infamous Heat Valve. Funny thing is...

Does the 97-01 Heater Core Box Design Limit Airflow?

Not doing recirc, just using the normal vent and floor selections. FYI, my blend door is cable operated. I'm referring to whatever enclosure is around the heater core. I have a '98 XJ. Interesting you ask which year because the guys with 00-01 (you and anthrax323) seem to have awesome...

Does the 97-01 Heater Core Box Design Limit Airflow?

Its a Dwyer 471 Digital Thermo Anemometer, and it also measures temp, so I'm assuming it factors that into it. What do you mean out of alignment? I do have an aftermarket stereo that was in the rig when I bought it, maybe they screwed something up when they isntalled it.

Does the 97-01 Heater Core Box Design Limit Airflow?

Because the temperature is below 0°... Right, Its blowing so weak. It changes hot to cold OK, so I'm assuming the blend door is functioning properly, just blows weaker on HOT and there is more noise coming from the HVAC box like there is an airflow restriction.

Does the 97-01 Heater Core Box Design Limit Airflow?

Its that time of year again to freeze my butt off driving to work in my Jeep. I've often noticed that the airflow from my vents is much lower when the temp knob is set to HOT compared to COLD. The HVAC unit makes more noise when set to HOT compared to COLD as well. xjguy98 has some good pics...

    Header Question

I'm replacing my stock exhaust manifold with a Rugged Ridge header (ceramic coated) today. My stock manifold cracked at the collector from cyls 1-3. I'm suspicious of my engine mounts causing the trouble, so I'm replacing those at the same time. Flex pipe would be the next step if I keep...

    Advice of snow tires...

I run a set of Hankook I-Pike W409's in the winter. Much cheaper than the Blizzaks or the Nokian Hakkapeliittas. They're studable and don't look too bad. I'm a big fan of snow tires, very good winter performance with the softer rubber and increased siping. What size are you looking for?

I'd go for the Jeep over the Subaru. There's just something about having only "Jeep" vehicles in your garage!

    Jeep Compass

I have an '09 Patriot (same chassis/powertrain as Compass) and its a good little rig. Got the 5-speed, so I get up around 26-27 mpg on average, not bad for a 4x4. Works great in the winter, the 4x4 is all automatic, don't have to touch anything. They give you a little lever to pull to "lock"...
