    I did the same thing as islander except mine never "broke loose". It was tight almost all the way out. Think it took 30 minutes....maybe.

    I've got a Dana 60 out from under my 2004 f250 sdcc. Missing the passenger side inside axle shaft(for lack of proper term) and the outside shaft is broken at the u-joint. See pics below.
