Swamp Lake Trail 2017

they had a metric ****ton of snow up there this year too.....I wonder if it will open by Sept.
 
So is the snow melted? Are we doing this?
 
I guess not yet!
 
Well -- I am hoping that Red lake and Coyote lake open up by the end of this month and maybe we'll do those trails instead. Looking back to 2011 when the last major dumping of snow occurred in the Sierras, the swamp lake trail didnt open until 8/17. I have a feeling it will be late August this year.
 
Red Lake, Mirror, West, Strawberry open up tomorrow. (I just called) and hopefully Coyote lake will open up in a couple of weeks. The Dusy and Swamp trail have no dates scheduled yet
 
The Bakersfield Crew has changed our plans. We are running Coyote the 10-13th. Going in on Thursday to get a good spot. Id does not look like Swamp will be open till later in August, and that is too close to school.
 
I'd like to do the same thing and run Coyote Friday 8/4 - Sunday 8/6 and drive up Thursday 8/4 to camp near the trailhead somewhere. If I could change the dates I would join you guys but I'm busy the remaining weekends in August.

I'm pretty sure MarkW still wants to go. Anyone else still want to do some trails the weekend of 8/3 - 8/6 near Shaver lake (Red lake, Coyote lake,etc) since Swamp will probably be closed?
 
I have a prior event planned the weekend of 10-13 which I've already promised volunteer work for.

I am off 07-31 through 08-04 and could have gone, but already made other plans. Someone needs to have something good going on the first week of August next year so I can do that instead. Time to take the kids on a "real" camping trip.

We went to Swamp last year after school started......best trip ever! No one was there ;)

I'll call the High Sierra Ranger district in Prathar to find out tomorrow. I might just join you guys 8/10-8/13 if there's not much interest from anyone wanting to go up 8/4. I was booked up that weekend but plans changed so we'll see.
 
confirmed with Fresno 4 wheel drive club, website is not correct. They will have trail opening date next Tuesday. B=(
