Yet another... Build thread for an xj on 40s and one tons in norcal

Yeah I already knew that about the belts, thats how I ordered the 94" and 93.5" belts for the rig. stock is 95". The 94" worked great. I might just keep the 93.5 as a trail spare at this point.

Now I have a bunch of non-usable 95" belts. I guess ill keep them in case I ever go back to a larger pulley.

Almost done

Made a weld on skid for the frame side mount

I put a heim at the lower side axle side.different ride heights wont change the axle side, just the frame crossmember side shackle angle, so you can lengthen the main tube if you lose adjustment pretty straightforward or lose shackle angle . I mean youd have to drastically change ride height too.

So just read through the whole thread (ugh).
Just wanted to verify some rough numbers from ya real quick since I'll be starting my tons swap with same tires here in next few weeks.
Front is 5.5" coils? Rear is?????? WB you have at 106 and do the tires actually measure close to 40 or are they more of a 37? Lol.

I'm planning on 6" front and slightly higher rear (unloaded to accommodate for being loaded) pretty much same WB (last rig was 106 on 37's and seemed to work well). And like you, looking at the mt2's to keep the funds in other areas.

Bad ass build, lots of notes taken.

Thanks man!

WB:
Actually, I need to double check WB, with the MJ leaves, the long Ruffstuff perches, and using the most rearward hole on the ruffstuff perches, I think I ended up at 103-104" depending on where I ended up putting my lowers. I try to measure tonight after work and post up.

Coils:
I am using a 6" PAC coil now, but the dude who welded the coil buckets on, welded them pretty high, so its like a 7-7.5" lift because of that. A 6" coil will be fine with the 40s, and I plan to eventually drop it down up front, but I needed the stiffer coil and the taller coils to help not kill shocks and add some On-road stability.
I am using a 12" short body 7100's, I re-valved them to 400/100.
Tires:
These 40s are very true to size, I believe they are 40", I can always measure again but they are huge compared to my old 37s. They are great on road and good enough offroad, I think once they wear in more they will get better. I think the rear traction bar is going to help a ton too. Ill measure tires as they sit now at 22psi which is my highway driving psi.

As for the rear leafs:
MJ bastard packs, with some 4-6" XJ leaves that already on the rig, shackle relocation boxes, and a 1.5" boomerang, I ended up with like 8-8.5" lift, but I haven't put all my gear and my spare tire in it, which adds like 500+ pounds, so I am sure it will be closer to 7.5" loaded.

Thanks sir. Aside from wheelbase seems like my numbers/plan seems pretty in tune. Appreciate the follow up and I'll definitely keep watching this thing.

These 40s measure 38.5" at 20psi bolted up to the rig and the wheelbase is 106.4"

Im glad you asked. I think these things where 40" when I got them on the pallet unmounted with no weight on them.

I like the traction bar. Were you really beating in the leaf springs that bad?

Im doing it for multiple reasons-
Possibly driveshaft slider,
prevent axle wrap for traction reasons
prevent axle wrap so I have less likelihood of snapping pinion U joints
So I dont "S" the leaves further down the road since its not super easy to find MJ leaves

Rig seems less touchy after reducing caster from 11* to 7* and adding in the smaller power steering pulley and adding the traction bar. Seems smoother and more solid on the freeway with the traction bar too. Maybe a hair more accel with possibly better power transfer. Looking forward to soup bowl again this year with all the new goodies

On the hydro assist:
going to swap out the 1/4" lines for 3/8" lines and also try out the 1.75" ram
trying to slow this thing down a bit on the freeway .
I noticed a lot less "darty" steering on the freeway from bringing caster from 11* to 7*
As did the smaller pulley and traction bar, but id like it a little less "darty" on the freeway.

I talked to PSC today and they seconded the larger ram and 3/8" diameter lines .
Maybe even bring caster back to 6-6.5*
