Its going to be a dt444e, basically a power stroke in guttless international trim

Gutless is an understatement. Out flatbed has a 444e and deeper gears. Going downhill with the wind behind you, you can sometimes reach 60mph while tacking out at 3k

I had always heard they were gutless so I never really thought much about it but even for a tow truck with an underpowered engine the thing was just way too slow. It has like 280k on it and from what it seems the injectors could use replacing just on mileage alone and the turbo could be pulled and checked. I'll probably check the boots better too. I don't have a boost gauge otherwise I'd check that since a lot of people are getting lame boost and I kind of suspect us to be as well.

No cool turbo noise=lame boost right!?

Makes sense to me..

Is it worth buying a full sye for the 242 or getting a 231 with one already installed for less money, pretty sore it would bolt right in but I'd have to get a new plastic shift plate and that's a deal breaker

I am pretty sure I have an NP242 plastic bezel for an early model around somewhere for you. No balls.

I don't have the metal shift gate though, you are on your own for that.

I have a 242 now, would need the new Shift stuff for a 231 swap, is either one better/stronger? I like all the colored options on the 242 even though I get stuck in part time though

Just about everything is a improvement over a multi fuel, so he wasn't completely wrong, but it would be a retarded swap

you can't get a HD SYE for a 242, just hack+tap. Unless you count Tom Woods who basically sells a shaft they did a H+T on already.

Yeah, the only nice thing about the multifuel is that they run on anything, and I'm pretty sure mine's had the fuel compensator removed already.

I completely agree, no sense in blowing money on putting in another shite motor. I'm hoping to find a 300 or 330hp 2500rpm rev limited cummins 8.3 for it, but won't have any money for something stupid like that till quite a while from now.

meh. i did neon injectors and idk if they added power. def smoother idle and throttle response tho

you can't get a HD SYE for a 242, just hack+tap. Unless you count Tom Woods who basically sells a shaft they did a H+T on already.

i did a hack and weld on my 242 in my 93. worked mint.
