I finally got around to installing my new battery/starting cables. Pics below. The car feels like it starts with more power. The only thing left I want to do in the engine compartment is a "tune-up" with distrubutor cap & rotor, spark plugs and spark plug wires.

I had to get my AC fixed. There's one thing I don't like - and that's sitting in a HOT jeep especially during summer when it's 90-100 degrees out...lame. That and with my Mojave Road trip and summer desert/baja trips coming up, I'd rather be in climate control :D :patriot:

So I broke down and took my Jeep to Santa Monica Radiator. AMAZING customer service (which the online reviews all raved about, but WOW). Chuck was super nice and helpful and accommodating to my schedule.
Turned out the since the previous owner had the car rewired that he had to call an independent electrician to come out to find a bad relay and then also some other electrical issue with the compressor clutch. Once that was fixed, they found low refrigerant because of a small hole (but couldn't find it). SO - they filled it with a neon dye and before my Mojave trip next weekend I can drop the Jeep off and they'll put it under a black light to find the hole, fix it and return it to me so that I don't roast in the desert.

So as many of you know already, I bent my axle. Just for completeness of the thread, I thought I'd post the pics here.

So I was able to pick up another D30 housing from Supergoober here on naxja. Thanks, again!

The question now is: should I truss it? I'm not saying that I'll purposely be beating on it, but let's face it, it was an accident, and accidents can happen more than once.

What do you guys think?

A truss is good insurance against future accidents or abuse. It comes down to how liklely you think it is that you will subject your axle to excessive forces in the future. It's cheaper and easier to build up the replacement axle now than to fix another bent axle in the future.

Shafts from old housing with old unit bearings which were good.
New ball joints
New axle seals
New ring bearings seals etc
4.56 gears & Aussie locker from old housing
Spicer u-joints on shafts
Tom Woods u-joints on DS
same knuckles and brakes
Alignment and pinion angle

Man she drives great now! I haven't done a freeway test yet, which I'll do tonight. The steering is TIGHT. I didn't know I could wiggle the steering wheel and get a reaction from the Jeep!

I'm ready for Memorial Day weekend!

It's in my trunk with no cover. Yours if you want it. I think it could be done but I don't know any better.do you know how to do it?
Well, let's see........I have some bricks and a really heavy Jeep! Actually it's probably not worth trying to straighten out without special equipment. It was just an ambitious thought :D
 
probably not. put it out on junk day, or see if any local mechanics have a scrap metal pile that they save for any scrap collectors. we have a pile at my shop i would have to check with the owner first but i could see if you can drop it here and the guy that takes out old rotors and junk will take it.
 
Leave it in front of Cracker's house any day, any time, and it'll be gone in minutes. Seriously. I've seen it happen! But that's off the 605 & I-10, so it might be a bit of a jaunt for you...
 
Update:

I added a new-to-me rear bumper. Max and I will be fabbing up a jerry can mount, but other than that, it's a nice unit. Home-made by Max, Webdog, who built a new one for his Jeep so this one was a deal! So the plan now will be to cut off the tire mount you see below on the roof rack so maximize available space (which would have been handy on my last trip of stuffing FIVE people plus camping gear in the XJ).

I removed the same problem castle nut from a previous adventure (See Mammoth/Sand Canyon Adventure) and I couldn't get the dang thing back on! So I had to do the same fix and then Max ground down the bolt because the threads were messed up! While all this was happening, he decided to sleeve the tie rod because of some misadventures we won't go into that happened that day ha-ha. The rod, it turns out, was already beginning to bend. I've either been hitting some rocks or maybe it bent from the work of pushing the 33's back and forth? More likely is it bent during the Mojave accident when I bent the axle :shhh:
